The Philippines is known to be a country rich in natural resources.

There are
so many means on how we can acquire power supply. We have so many renewable
energy resources which can be used as an alternative for the non-renewable energy
resources. But why is that we still experience shortage in power supply?
Most of our power supply came from Malampaya gas field. It is a natural gas
field located in the West Philippine Sea. Natural gas is a non-renewable resource
and sooner or later it will be depleted. It was forecasted that our country will
experience rotational brown outs due to very thin reserves and also because of the
delays in the operation of upcoming power plants.
To address this issue, the Congress made their version on the proposed grant
of special power to the President with regards to the power supply shortage. This
will give the President the authority to enter into contracts to raise the generating
capacity through contracting new power plants or renting modular generator sets.
Last year, we had experienced very often rotational brown outs and it is
expected that this year, it will be worst. Amidst of the effort of the government to
address this situation, they can no longer stop its occurrence because the feared
power crisis is already upon us and the time needed to rehabilitate and activate this
alternative power plants will take so much time and money (not mentioning the
corrupt government officials that we have in the Philippines).
For us citizens, the only thing that we can do to contribute to this issue is to
conserve electricity. We cannot solely put upon the shoulders of the government
this problem because first of all we are the ones who will be the most affected. Let
us all be a responsible citizen of our country.
