Issue 01 (2016-01-30)
This document describes how to use the LMT to upgrade BTS software to BTS3900
V100R010C10SPC255.
Upgrade Note
The source version of an eNodeB must be listed inTable 1.1 even if a hot patch is installed on this
eNodeB. To query the source version of the eNodeB, run the LST VER command in the MML window
of the LMT.
Issue 01 (2016-01-30)
The target version of the eNodeB has the loading control right over co-module RF
modules. For details, see 1.4.2Loading Control Rights.
The multimode base station supports inter-subrack connection. Users can run the DSP
BRD command to query whether the eNodeB is configured with a UCIU board.
Co-transmission is applied on the base station and the eNodeB provides a cotransmission port.
For details about which mode has loading control rights, see Appendix 1 Version Mapping
Information. You can obtain this appendix from the multimode base station release notes in
the document package delivered with the software version of the multimode base station.
For detailed operations, see 4.2(Optional) Setting Loading Control Rights of a Multimode
Base Station.
Issue 01 (2016-01-30)
This document instructs operation personnel to upgrade co-MPT base stations in batches
on the LMT.
To guarantee that the base station can be correctly upgraded using the LMT, the web
browser version of the PC on which the LMT is installed (LMT PC for short) must be:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 or 9
FireFox 3.0 or later
If any of the following alarms is generated in the base station to be upgraded, clear the
alarm before the upgrade. Otherwise, the upgrade will fail.
ALM-26235 RF Unit Maintenance Link Failure
ALM-25901 Remote Maintenance Link Failure
ALM-26270 Inter-System Communication Failure
ALM-26272 Inter-System RF Unit Parameter Settings Conflict
ALM-26274 Inter-System Board Object Configuration Conflict
ALM-26277 Inter-System Control Rights Conflict
ALM-26279 Inter-System Board Installation and Configuration Mismatch
Check whether the LMT IP address of the base station to be upgraded has been changed
before the upgrade. If it has, obtain the new IP address.
Do not run configuration commands for the base station that is being upgraded, including
the ADD, MOD, RMV, and SET commands. If you must do so, log in to the LMT and
run the DSP SOFTSTATUS command to check the software status of the base station.
Operations can be performed only when the software status is Idle.
If a license file needs to be reloaded for the target version, obtain the license file of the
current version before the upgrade. Ensure that the original license file can be reloaded if
the eNodeB is rolled back. Determine whether you need to apply for an eNodeB license
and reload it by referring to section 3.9.1Checking Whether You Need to Apply for an
eNodeB License. For details about how to back up a license file, see section 3.10Back
Up the License File of an eNodeB.
This document uses the figures of the upgrade from BTS3900 V100R008C00SPC260 to
BTS3900 V100R010C10SPC255 as an example. During the actual upgrade process,
replace BTS3900 V100R010C10SPCXXX with BTS3900 V100R010C10SPC255.
Do not perform the following operations during the upgrade process, including software
downloading, activation, and process between the downloading and activation:

For a multimode base station, loading control rights must be set. The setting is not required
for a single-mode base station.
To set the loading control rights, perform the following steps:
Step 1 In the main window of the LMT, click MML.
The MML window is displayed.
Step 2 Run the DSP LOADCTRL command in the MML window. Query and record the settings of
the loading control rights as well as the software version of the peer mode.
Step 3 Run the SET LOADCTRL command with the parameter settings shown inFigure 3.1 in the
MML window.

If the upgrade risk check results show that BootROM needs to be upgraded, download the
software package of BTS3900 V100R010C10SPC255 and upgrade the BootROM in the
software package.
During the BootROM upgrade, an unexpected board reset may damage the BootROM or
cause a board restart failure. If this occurs, return the damaged board to Huawei for
repairs.

as follows:
(Optional) If you must upgrade the configuration files, select Download Configuration
File and Activate Configuration File.
When Delay Download by Flag is set to YES(Delay Download), the upgrade duration shortens by
approximately 10 minutes. As a result, only the basic functions of the LMT are available after the
upgrade. However, LMT files will be automatically supplemented on the NodeB four hours after the
upgrade. If all LMT functions are required in an emergency, run the SPL SOFTWARE command
immediately after the upgrade is complete.

Step 8 On the Upgrade Software tab page shown in 4.3.2Upgrading the Base Station Software, set
Software version to V100R010C10SPC255 and click Execute to start the upgrade.
The upgrade progress is displayed on the Message tab page. When the upgrade progress reaches 100%
and the upgrade is successful, the base station is automatically reset and disconnected from the LMT PC.
Perform corresponding operations if the following issues occur:

If Failed Boards are not 0, see 7.1What Do I Do If the Number of Failed Boards Is Not 0?
If Running Status is Fail and if a message is displayed indicating that the version after the upgrade
is not the target version, the upgrade has failed and the base station has been automatically rolled
back to the source version. When this happens, ensure that the software version is correct and
perform the upgrade again
After the software is successfully activated and the base station is reset, the base station
automatically rolls back to the source version if the base station fails to connect to the U2000
or LMT within 30 minutes.
Step 9 (Optional) On the LMT, click MML and then run the SPL SOFTWARE command in the
MML window to supplement the software, with the parameters setting as follows:
After the supplement is successful, the LMT exits automatically.
1.
Set FTP Server IP to the IP address of the PC used for logging in to the LMT.

After an upgrade, follow the instructions in this chapter to verify the upgrade.
If the base station cannot start up after the upgrade, it will be automatically rolled back to the
source version. The rollback takes about 15 minutes, during which base station services and
maintenance are interrupted. Therefore, wait 15 minutes before you log in to the base station
using the LMT. After you successfully log in to the base station, perform a self-test on the
LMT to check whether the rollback is successful. For details about how to perform a self-test,
see 3.6Checking the Status of the Base Station.

The alarms that are not expected to be cleared in the target version are not cleared.

noise do not occur.
Perform data service tests and verify that data services are processed properly.

For a multimode base station, if multiple modes that have been upgraded to the target versions
need to be rolled back, it is recommended that all the target versions be rolled back to the
source versions.
If configuration parameters are modified after an upgrade, this command will invalidate the
modified values of the parameters. Before running this command, assess impacts of the
modified configurations and determine whether the impacts are acceptable.

During the rollback, do not reset the base station or any board, power off the base station, or

During the rollback, the MML command information pane shows the rollback progress. When
the progress reaches 100% and the execution result is Operation Succeeded, the system is

If the execution result shows that Failed Boards is not 0, refer to section 7.3 "How to Back Up

If a license file is loaded during the upgrade, determine whether the license file needs to be

Issue 01 (2016-01-30)
After the software version is rolled back to a source version earlier than SRAN10.1, the names of
new alarms and events in SRAN10.1 will be displayed as Undefined on the LMT.
After an eNodeB in V100R010C00SPC050 is rolled back to the source version that is earlier than
V100R010 series, there is a low possibility that ALM-26200 Board Hardware Fault is reported on
the LBBPc. If the alarm cannot be cleared within 10 minutes, run the RST BRD command to reset
the LBBPc to resume services.

Versions with the format XX.XXX.XX.XXX are released later than those with the
format VXXXRXXXCXXBXXX.
Eliminate the non-digital characters contained in the version number in the same format,
and you get a number. The larger the number, the later the BootROM version is. For
example:
In Version A (01.012.00.200) and Version B (01.013.01.001), the number of Version A is
101200200 and the number of Version B is 101301001. Because 101301001 is larger
than 101200200, Version B was released later than Version A.
