Service Transmission Mode

E1 services and Ethernet services are multiplexed into Hybrid microwave frames in the local MUX unit. After the Hybrid
microwave frames are modulated through the modem, they are transmitted to the opposite end through the transmitter.
The opposite receiver demodulates the received signals into Hybrid microwave frames through the modem. Then, the
DMUX unit separates the Hybrid microwave frames into E1 services and Ethernet services.

The Hybrid microwave defines different types of Hybrid microwave frames for different working modes. The accessed
E1 services and Ethernet services are multiplexed into the same Hybrid microwave frame, and then transmitted to the
ODU through the IF interfac e after IF coding and modulation. The E1 services and the Ethernet services are
transmitted to the remote end through the microwave after the up-conversion.
The features of the Hybrid microwave frame are as follows:

Capacity of the Hybrid Microwave Service

With regard to the Hybrid microwave, E1 services occupy the corresponding bandwidth in the service
capacity. After the E1 service capacity is subtracted from the service capacity, the remaining bandwidth
can be used by Ethernet services.

AM Technology
The Hybrid microwave supports the AM technology.
The microwave modulation schemes could be QPSK to 256QAM. In the same channel spacing, the
air interface bandwidth depends on the modulation scheme. The higher the modulation scheme,
the larger the transmission bandwidth, but the lower the system gain.
The Hybrid microwave supports the AM mode and the fixed modulation scheme (that is, the AM is
disabled).

In the case of the Super PDH, a single carrier can transmit the services with the capacity of
75xE1s. Thus, the efficiency is improved by 15%.

AM Implementation

AM Technology

Before
switching

Through the AM technology, the Hybrid microwave uses a high-efficiency modulation scheme when
the channel is of better quality. Hence, more user services can be transmitted and thus the
transmission efficiency and spectrum utilization are improved. When the quality of the channel is
degraded, the Hybrid microwave uses the low-efficiency modulation scheme, in which only the
services of a high priority are transmitted. Hence, the anti-interference capability of links is
enhanced and availability of the links on which the high-priority services are transmitted is ensured.
E1 services are of the highest priority in the AM-based Hybrid microwave transmission. Ethernet
services are classified into flows of different priorities based on the CoS technology. When the
Hybrid microwave uses the lowest-efficiency modulation scheme, the equipment transmits E1
services only (if the service bandwidth is higher than the total bandwidth of the E1 services, the
Ethernet services of a high priority can be transmitted). When the Hybrid microwave uses other
modulation schemes, the increased bandwidth can be used to transmit Ethernet services. In this
case, availability of the links on which the E1 services and Ethernet services of a high priority are
transmitted can be ensured and the capacity for transmitting Ethernet services increases.

When the SNR value received at the receive end is

lower than the threshold, the receive end transmits
quality degradation indication signals to the AM engine.
The AM engine at the receive end places switching
indication signals to the overheads of a Hybrid
microwave frame. The switching indication signals are
transmitted to the local end through the transmit path.
The IF unit at the transmit end processes IF signals,
and transmits the switching indication signals of the
AM to the AM engine.
The AM engine transmits the switching indication
signals to the service signal processing unit and the IF
signal modulation unit, indicating that the service signal
processing unit and the IF signal modulation unit
complete the switching of service frames and the
change of modulation schemes after frame N.

After the modulation scheme changes,

After
the bandwidth of E1 services does not
switching
change. The Ethernet services with
higher priorities are multiplexed into
microwave frames based on the QoS.
Thus, the remaining bandwidth of the
microwave frames is used to transmit the
Ethernet services with lower priorities.
Due to the switching to the low
modulation scheme, the bandwidth of the
Ethernet services that are multiplexed
into the multiplex unit becomes low, and
the bandwidth of the Hybrid microwave
frames also becomes low.

With regard to the AM function, the transmit frequency, receive frequency, and

Ethernet Clock Synchronization

In the OptiX RTN 600 V100R003, the synchronous Ethernet function is supported.
Synchronous Ethernet is a clock frequency synchronization technology at the Ethernet
physical layer, which is similar to the SDH clock. The clock is extracted from the serial
code streams on the Ethernet line and then used to transmit data, thus implementing
the clock transfer.
Through the technology, the equipment extracts the clock from the Ethernet line that is
connected to the BSC or RNC. The clock information is transmitted to the next-hop
equipment through the microwave. Then, the next-hop equipment transmits the clock
information to the BTS or NodeB through the Ethernet interface. Thus, the clock
synchronization between the BSC or RNC and the BTS or NodeB is maintained.

When services are accessed through the related GE interface (the GE interface of the
OptiX RTN 620 IFH2 or the GE interface of the OptiX RTN 605 IRU), the OptiX RTN

In the OptiX RTN 620 V100R003, only the IFH2 supports the synchronous Ethernet
function. In the OptiX RTN 605 V100R003, the EMS4 (logical board) supports the
synchronous Ethernet function. In the OptiX RTN 600 V100R003, the clock

External ports
There are six PORTs, namely, four FE interfaces and two GE interfaces. The four FE interfaces
(PORT1PORT 4) are RJ-45 electrical interfaces. The two SFP GE interfaces can be LC optical
interfaces or RJ-45 electrical interfaces. When the GE interface is the electrical interface, it is
compatible with the FE interface.
The FE interfaces and the GE electrical interfaces on the EMS6 support the MDI, MDI-X, and
adaptive modes.
The external port attributes, such as the basic attribute, TAG attribute, network attribute, flow
control, and advanced attribute can be set.
Internal ports
The EMS6 provides eight internal ports, namely, VCTURNK1VCTRUNK8. The common
parameters of each internal port include the TAG attribute, encapsulation/mapping protocol,
network attribute, bound path, and LCAS.
When each VCTRUNK binds VC-3 paths, all VC-3 paths in VC-4-1 and VC-4-2 can be bound. A
maximum of six VC-3 paths can be bound. When each VCTRUNK binds VC-12 paths, all VC-12
paths in VC-4-2 can be bound. A maximum of 63 VC-12 paths can be bound.

The EMS6 supports four FE interfaces and two GE interfaces to implement Layer 2 switching. The
four FE interfaces use the standard RJ-45 connectors, and are 10M/100M auto-adaptive interfaces.
According to the actual application scenarios, the two GE interfaces can be optical or electrical by
using different SFP modules.
The EMS6 is developed in the OptiX RTN 600 V100R002. In the OptiX RTN 600 V100R003, the
hardware does not change, but the data features of the software are enhanced.
When the EMS6 is used with the IFH2, the SFP module that supports the electrical interface (RJ-45
connector) must be used. The preceding figure shows the GE electrical interface that uses the RJ-45
connector.

Application scenario
The EMS6 supports the convergence and switching of Ethernet services in multiple
directions. It is usually used in hub stations to converge, switch, and transmit the Ethernet
services.
