Shri Narendra Modi,

Prime Minister of India,
South Block,
New Delhi.

Dear Prime Minister:

write this letter to draw your attention to October 30th' the birth and
death anniversary of Tamil Nadu's most fearless Freedom Fighter
I

uthuramalinga Thevar.

Shri Thevar was an associate of Subhash Chandra Bose and is

considered as the main catalytic force to uproot the British lmperialist hold
in Tamil Nadu. He was a close associate and confident of Sardar Patel. After
Independence the Congress under Nehru rule discriminated against Shri
Thevar and foisted a false murder case of a Dalit, against Shri Thevar.
Although Shri Thevar was acquitted fully, he suffered custodial interrogation
in jail which ruined his health. He died in 1953.
In 1998, I was elected to the Lok Sabha from Madurai which was the
base of Shri Thevar and on the request of the Thevar community I got
installed Muthuramalinga Thevar statue inside Parliament House in 2002.

I also had written to the Civil Aviation Minister in the Vajpayee

Government to rename the Madurai Airport as Muthuramalihga Thevar
International Airport. The then Minister of Civil Aviation Mr. Sharad Yadav
accepted this but failed to get the concurrence of the then Caretaker Chief
Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. Paneer Selvam. Surprisingly therefore the Tamil
Nadu Government refused to concur and the matter remained pending till
2006 when Shri Praful Patel, then Civil Aviation Minister accepted my fresh
proposal and decided to make an announcement, irrespective of the Tamil
Nadu Government, when the new Airport building at Madurai was
inaugurated by him. But due to Mr. P. Chidambaram Castiest and traditional

for Muthuramalingam Thevar, at the last minute he did not

allow this and thus Mr. Patel could not fulfil this promise.
Congress hatred

Now I urge you to have your office review the record and direct the
renaming of the Madurai Airport as Muthuramalingam Thevar International
Airport. This is a long pending desire of the patriots in Tamil Nadu to honour
this Freedom Fighter who besides was a deep believer in spiritual values.
