SAS Enterprise Miner

This Road Map briefly describes the media contained in your SAS Enterprise Miner package and how
to proceed to install the software.

Description of Your Packages

Your SAS Enterprise Miner software comes in two installation kits. Each installation kit represents a
distinct functional area of your SAS Enterprise Miner solution and should be installed on a separate
machine:

SAS Enterprise Miner Server

SAS Enterprise Miner Client

Note: In addition, depending on your order, your kits may include SAS Text Miner Server and SAS
Text Miner Client.

Overview
Two parallel versions of SAS Enterprise Miner, either 4.3 or 5.3, are available in SAS 9.1. SAS
Enterprise Miner 4.3 is a continuation of the SAS client/SAS server system. SAS Enterprise Miner 5.3
uses the production SAS 9.1 server and is a Web-deployable client application, which was developed
using Java technology.
Important: If SAS Text Miner is included with your order, be sure to complete Step 3 below after
upgrading or installing SAS Enterprise Miner.

How to Proceed
Be sure to terminate all non-essential applications before proceeding with the installation of any CD.
Disable any anti-virus software that may be running.

SAS Enterprise Miner 4.3

All required SAS Enterprise Miner components are installed as part of the SAS Foundation install.
Once the install is complete, refer to the Post-Installation Setup of Enterprise Miner Solution
Software chapter in the Post-Installation Guide (for Windows users) or Configuration Guide (for
UNIX users) on the Documentation for Installing and Configuring SAS CD or Install Center
for more information. On the first page, select Planning Installation Edition Kit, then select the
appropriate document in the Configuration section under Post-Installation and Configuration
Instructions.

Upgrading from Enterprise Miner 5.2 to Enterprise Miner 5.3

SAS Enterprise Miner 5.3 can be installed as an update to your Enterprise Miner 5.2 installation.
Please refer to the upgrade instructions in the document entitled Installation and Configuration
Instructions for SAS Enterprise Miner 5.3 available at the following Web site:

Installing a New SAS Enterprise Miner 5.3

SAS Enterprise Miner 5.3 requires a planned SAS install. During a planned SAS installation, a SAS
Metadata Server, an Object Spawner, and a SAS Workspace Server are defined and configured and are
available for use by SAS Enterprise Miner. The deployment process also creates a foundation
metadata repository and some initial users.

Step 1: Install and configure the installation kit containing SAS Enterprise
Miner Server.

To identify the installation kit that contains SAS Enterprise Miner Server, see the product listing
on the SAS 9.1.3 label on each kit.
Read and complete all of the steps in the QuickStart Guide in order to install SAS Enterprise
Miner Server.
Proceed with your installation and configuration by selecting a deployment scenario from the
document entitled Installation and Configuration InstructionsSAS Enterprise Miner 5.3,
which may be found at the following Web site:

Step 2: Install and configure the installation kit containing SAS Enterprise
Miner Client.

To identify the installation kit that contains SAS Enterprise Miner Client, see the product listing

Step 3: Configure SAS Text Miner 3.2

Note: If SAS Text Miner Server and SAS Text Miner Client are listed on the SAS 9.1.3 labels of your
SAS Enterprise Miner installation kits, continue with this step.
SAS Text Miner Server and SAS Text Miner Client were installed as part of the planned SAS
Enterprise Miner Server and SAS Enterprise Miner Client installations. Please go to

complete your installation of SAS Text Miner.
