Environmental impacts

Loss of habitat, and detrimental impacts on biodiversity

Global migration and death of wildlife populations
Ocean acidification, loss of sea-ice, desertification

Human health impacts

Spread of disease-carrying vectors

Loss of life due to more extreme events
Loss of property due to more extreme events

Geo-political impacts

Inter-state and inter-country water wars

Global emission impacts and injustice
Impacts on economics from resource constraints

Planetary Boundaries
50% of Indias forests were
lost in the last 2 centuries
66% of all species in India
could be extinct by 2075
70% of Indias water bodies
are polluted or drained

2 mammals, 3 birds, and 20

plants already extinct!

Solutions

India Renewables Progress

As of March 2016.

Technology-wise & Regional Goals

Promoting Renewables in India

Maximize Renewables Implementation

Improve Affordability & Access

The Conservation Ethos

isavasyam idam sarvam yat kincit jagatyam jagat tena tyaktena bhunjita ma grdhah kasya svid dhanam
(Accept only what is sanctioned for you, knowing to Whom it all belongs)
-- Text 1; Sri Isopanisad (Prayers to Vishnu)

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Phillippians 4-13 (The Bible, New International Version)

The word Allah refers to The Greatest, the source of all matter and all energy

Always leave a place better than it was when you entered it.

What can I do?

Impact Mitigation
Carbon Capture & Storage
Carbon Credits Trading
Tree Plantation / Afforestation

Global initiatives: EP100, RE100

Green Buildings, Energy Star Appliances
Bahubali movie crew pose for a selfie with the trees they planted for the Haritha-Haaram project.
Telangana residents planted more than 2 lakh plants and trees on 11 July 2016

Key Observations

Affordability, Universal Access, and Environmental Impact are main concerns

Post COP-21 push for renewable energy needs more comprehensive engagement

Post-carbon development will have to be defined and incorporated appropriately

Conservation still plays a key role in shaping sustainable energy scenario for India

While mitigation is a last option; preparedness and usable mechanisms are needed
