Representation:

Laura Mulvey is a 1970s feminist media theorist who in 1975

released her book Visual and Other Pleasures that then went
on to describe her theory of the Male Gaze. The male gaze
theory refers how men see a female actor and they look at
her but when they see a male actor they look with him or see
themselves in the mans position. But for females we would
look at an actress and see past the male gaze.
Furthermore the Male Gaze theory refers to how women within
the media are objectified and seen more as objects rather than
a female.
Tim OSullivan is a key concept in communication and cultural
studies whos representation is; The way in which ideas,
objects, people, groups and life forms are depicted by the mass
media and is the method used by the mass media to create
meanings. Therefore he is suggesting how using key important
representations can explain the meaning of the text clearly
within suggesting their certain ideas.
Richard Dyar is a theorist who rethinks the Criticism of
Popular Media and he thinks that how people are seen can be
how they are treated therefore how we treat other people
would be based on how we see them in which is formed from
representation. Moreover if someone is displayed in a bad way
they may be treated badly as the representation of them was
formed badly.
Michael Maffesoli is a Nationalism, Tribalims and Globalism
theorist who identified an idea of Urban Tribe. This is where
people in small groups can usually have similar worldwide
views but the consequences of this are there is starting to have
less and less individualism.
Louis Althusser Is an ideologist who says that the media can
create a representation of someone or something that then
influences the media becoming the normal.
