ROK Hwaseong Fortress

The Hwaseong Fortress was completed in 1796 when Jeongjo the 22nd king of the Joseon Dynasty had dreamed of
transferring the capital city, and is located in Suwon-Si, Gyeonggi Province in Korea. Although the dream of transferring of
the capital city melted away due to an early death of Chong-jo, the remaining fortress is evaluated as the masterpiece of the
Korean fortress architecture. Both rocks and bricks are used in constructing the fortress surrounded by 7 meter high and 5
kilometer long walls. It is a remarkable point that the perfect record of the construction schedule, quantity of the materials,
names of the laborers and other details are preserved. It was registered as the world cultural heritage in 1997. The paper
craft models after the Janganmun, the north gateway of the Hwaseong Fortress. Jangan connotes the capital city and it
was the formal gateway for the kings.
* This model was designed for Papercraft and may differ from the original in some respects.
