S-92 achieves FAA, Transport Canada Icing
Certification
In another major milestone for the S-92, both the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) and Transport Canada have certified Sikorsky
Aircraft’s S-92 helicopter, equipped with a new Rotor Ice Protection
System (RIPS), for flight in known icing conditions. The S-92 is
now certified to the newest and most stringent all-weather safety
standards for both the United States and Canada.
Any S-92 with RIPS will now be allowed to launch in icy weather that
might otherwise delay or cancel flight operations. The RIPS determines
the temperature and moisture content of the surrounding environment and
applies heat to the main and tail rotor blades to remove any ice buildup.
The agencies granted the certifications upon completion of final flight
tests in Alaska in October. Those tests also included evaluations by Most of the S-92 helicopters delivered to date

delivered RIPS equipment and activate the system

world. This makes the Transport Canada endorsement particularly
meaningful,” said Mick Maurer, Sikorsky vice president of commercial
programs. “Cougar Helicopters Limited, one of the earliest S-92

Sikorsky Fleet Grows with J. C. Bamford S-76C++ Purchase

J. C. Bamford Excavators Ltd. (JCB), a global leader in construction
equipment, added to its fleet of Sikorsky S-76 helicopters with
the recent contract signing for an S-76C++. Delivery will occur in
September 2006. This transaction marks the first planned delivery of an
S-76C++ into the European market.
“Clearly we are very happy to continue our strong association with
Sikorsky” said Captain Steve Hogarth chief of operations – aviation.
“JCB is arguably one of the busiest European corporate helicopter

support one of our core values: To provide superior customer care.”
“We are particularly looking forward to receiving this aircraft, which
will be equipped with the Quiet Main GearboxTM and Enhanced
Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS). We will upgrade our
current S-76C+ in the near future to these improved items as well,”
