Some Things to Know About 7th Grade Science

Class
Rules and Expectations:
Be PREPAREDCome to class with all needed materials
Be PROMPTin your assigned seat at the bell
Be POLITElisten to who is speaking, be courteous to others
Be RESPONSIBLE for your actions, manners, and work
Show RESPECT to others, as well as yourself.

Be Prepared Everyday:
I expect that as seventh graders students come prepared to class every day. This
means students should have their agenda, textbook, homework, folder, and
something to write with when they walk into the classroom. Because I expect
students to come prepared to class, I will not allow students to return to their
lockers after class has started.

Homework:
Homework is generally given two to three nights per week. Class time is often
given to begin the assignment. I do realize there are other subject areas assigning
homework as well so I generally try to keep the length of assignments reasonable
(15-30 minutes on average).
Homework (Late) Policy
All middle school students are expected to do all assigned homework to be
submitted for full credit on the due date specified by the instructor. Assigned
overnight homework will be worth reduced credit when submitted late. Late
assignments will be reduced by 10% for each day that they are late
(2 days = -20%off). No credit will be given for homework turned in after five days.
Absent Work
Students will have the same number of days as they were absent to turn in missing
work. For example, if a student is out one day, they will get one day to make up all
work. If they are absent an entire week, they will have five school days to make up
the work. I have an area set up in our classroom where the student can locate
assignments. It is the students responsibility to find out what work they
missed while absent.
If absent students should:
1. Copy classroom planner into own planner
2. Get any notes/handouts from the designated folder (organized by day
assigned)
3. Complete assignments.
4. Turn assignments in ON TIME.
A few words about Cheating: Every student needs to review the section in the
student handbook that addresses cheating. It is a major offense and can result in

suspension. Cheating will not be tolerated. Anyone caught cheating will receive a
zero for the assignment, as well as the appropriate disciplinary action as outlined
in the student handbook (agenda). This applies to students who give their
completed assignments to others to be copied.

Grading Scales:
Grading in my classroom is broken down into three different categories. A
students earned grade will be calculated in the areas of:
1. 50% of total grade: Assessments (tests, quizzes, labs, etc)
2. 50% of total grade: Classwork (Assignments, homework, activities, labs, etc.)

Assessment Retake Policy

Students are allowed to retake assessments (not daily assignments) if they are not
satisfied with their performance. The retake policy is as follows.
Retakes of tests available to all students (including Honors). Average of both
scores will be given.
Students will have a reflection form to complete and obtain a parent
signature. A review assignment will also be given and required.
Students will take same or similar test.
Retakes will be given within 1 week of pass back.
Students are responsible for organizing a suitable time to retake with Mrs. Hindle

Textbook:
We will be using 4 of the Glencoe middle school series books throughout the year.
These texts are available online. Please refer to the online textbook directions
page.

Parent Communication:
Agenda books
All students are required to carry their agenda book with them to all of their
classes and fill out the agenda for the day when they arrive to each class. This is a
great tool to keep students organized and parents informed. Parents should review
these nightly with students.
Parent Portal

Parent portal is an online tool that allows parents to view their childs grades in
each class at any time. If you have not already done so, a parent will need to get
an access code from the main office. This must be done in person. The portal is
updated regularly, but not instantaneously.
