Our Lady of Unity Catholic

School
2016-2017 School Year

Dear Parents & Friends,

Each Friday we have an all

school Mass. At this Mass,
students are asked to bring an
offering for the collection
basket. The practice began
several years ago to help our
students begin to understand
the importance of tithing to their
parish. We understand that the
children may not have a lot to
offer, but if they are able to
bring even a couple of quarters
each Friday, particularly if they
did something to earn it, it will
help them to start building an
understanding of the needs of
the church and others in the
world. I know even with good
intentions, sometimes we
forget. Please help remind
your child on Friday mornings.

TRASH BAG SALE

Hopefully everyone is out

there selling trash bags. As a
reminder, any family who sells
at least 25 rolls will split the
proceeds to go toward the
remainder of their tuition.
When I send in the order I
will add on several extra cases
for the people who come by all
year to buy bags. I would like
to have some students selling
these extra bags after all of the
SJE and SH masses. This is a
great opportunity to get some
service hours. Please contact
me with a Saturday or Sunday
in the next few weeks to let me
know what Mass your child
can help with. Thank you!

HAPPY BEAR

PTO
Our first PTO meeting of the
year is Tuesday, Sept. 13 @
6:00pm in the lunchroom. All
parents who want to be actively
involved in the education of
their child should attend these
meetings. Meetings will be on
the 2nd Tuesday of the month
and will be offered in English
and Spanish. Thank you to our
officers, Erika Moya, president,
Oscar Osorio, Vice-President,
Leonae DeLaTorre, secretary,
and Maria Rentas-Monzon,
Treasurer for volunteering to
lead this vital organization.

As required by the KCK

Archdiocese, all classes will
have a lesson about Touching
Safety during the month of
September.
Kindergarten and 1st grade
will have a guest speaker from
Sunflower House present
Happy Bear. Happy Bear is an
interactive skit that teaches
young children about welcome
and unwelcome touches. Mrs.
Campbell, our school
counselor, will use the Virtus
Touching Safety program to
provide the lesson in grades 2
through 8. If you would like
additional information or you
do not want your child to
participate, please let the
office know by Monday, Sept.
12th. Thank you.

UNITY FEST
Unity Fest is a great chance
for our families and students
to get in their service hours.
The PTO is in charge of the
snow cone and cotton candy
booth. We will need workers
there working two hour shifts
from 11:00-9:00. I have the
sign-up sheet in my office. If
you or your older children are
available to help, please call
the school office.

PARISH MISSION
This is a great opportunity
for our parents to complete
the adult faith formation piece
of the scholarship agreement.
You could attend both nights
or just one. Both evenings
will begin at 7:00 at SJE and
last for about an hour. The
retreat will be offered only in
English.
