I Say
My notes, commentary
The article What is Social Studies? Gives a
direct definition of what social studies is.
Where as the Social Studies Standards article
talks about what is required in the social
studies curriculum, with a combination of
geography, American and world history,
economics and government.
This article talks about what the main goal of
each teacher should be in teaching students
about social studies. Teaching them how to
make decisions for the common good and
trying not to recreate the bad parts of history.
Also showing them that they can make a
difference with the amount of people that used
their voice to effect history.

On this page they offer multiple ideas and

options to help with teaching social
studies.

They offer a range of options to help each

grade level understand a different aspect of
social studies. Through each section of social
studies, like you cant teach a third grader in
depth about economics. They just wouldnt
understand it.

Connections to previous MR:

Some personal connections I have to the previous blog article about why students hate social studies is
I think we should incorporate a multitude of each section for studies throughout the K-12 years. For me
I didnt honestly know that economics was part of history so I was confused on what math had to do
with history, therefor I didnt like it at all. If you give an overview of each subject throughout the years
will show students what social studies Is really about not just ancient history of American history.
