St.

Paul United Methodist

Church
From Pastor Nathan

September 2016

Please say the following prayer as

often as possible:
Lord of all creation, you have
called me to serve you and all that
you have created, yet so often I
feel overwhelmed by this call. As
we as a church work to discern
your desire for us, help me to hear
your desire for my responsibility
within the church and in our community. Give me the patience to
hear your voice speaking in the silence and through my brothers and
sisters in Christ.
Watch and guide the people whom
you have called and we have accepted as leaders in your church,
and give me the courage to make
my voice heard while guiding me to
also listen. I know that the future
of this church is in your hands, and
I know that we are far from closing
our doors for good. Help me to
see my place in that future that we
may fulfill your will here on earth.
In the name of Jesus Christ I pray,
amen.

With Sympathy

Congratulations

History of Our Local Pioneer Club

Fifteen years ago our daughter, Dena

Bachman, brought Pioneer Club to the Southwestern Community after her daughter, Emily, spent one year as a Girl Scout. Dena wanted more of a God centered scouting program
for Emily and as a result she set up our Pioneer Club offering three classes: Scooters
(PreK-K), Voyagers (1st & 2nd) and Pathfinders (3rd & 4th). When it came time for the
fourth graders to leave this ministry, they ask
if they could continue. At that point, Dena
was able to put together a volunteer staff to
offer classes for PreK-6th grade.
Pioneer Club is not a Methodist ministry,
and our club is not included in St. Pauls yearly budget. We pay $250.00 fee per year to
the Pioneer Club organization which is headquartered in Wheaton, IL. The only requirement we must meet is to be hosted by a
church. St. Paul agreed to host our club from
the beginning.

Food Pantry News

We have been extremely busy at the Brighton
Area Food Pantry for the last few months. Summertime is usually busy because children are
home from school and help is often needed. We
consistently serve between 100 and 140 people
each month so we always need donations. Summertime is also a time when those who donate
are gone on vacation or busy so donations drop
too while need goes up. We are currently in desperate need of soups, canned fruits and protein
items like canned tuna or chicken and canned
pastas. If it is more convenient, money is always
appreciated too. Checks can be made out to St.
Paul UMC and marked Food Pantry in the
memo line. Ill thank you in advance for your support and help and I also have to give a big thank
you to Dorothy Schroeder and Sylvia Skinner for
their faithful and dependable service. I couldnt
do it without them! All are appreciated as we
reach out to our community as Jesus Christ
taught us.
Sincerely,

Karen Porter

Thank you, Emily Bachman

Thank you so much

for the generosity and support you showed in
the scholarship you granted me. I will continue
working hard and remembering you throughout
my college years.

Mowing
Thank you to the Scott Rothe family for
the mowing and trimming of the yards at
our church, parsonage, Cartwright Building, Food Band and all areas in between at
no cost to our church family. We truly
appreciate the Rothe family and the gift of
service they are giving us. Thanks again!
