Pandesal is one of the most popular bread in the Philippines; this is best eaten during
breakfast. It is yeast bread where individual loaves as created and it is formed like cap, covered
by bread crumbs and baked.
According to historians, Filipinos inherited pandesal to the Spaniards who once colonized
the country. Spaniards taught some Filipinos on how to make this kind of bread and until now,
the techniques are still there. But, as the years passed Filipinos made some revisions and
declared as own. Some bakeries in the Philippines are making the pandesal more special like
malunggay pandesal, crunchy pandesal, grated cheese pandesal and wheat pandesal.
This Pan De Veggie House will cater a unique pandesal made by different flavours of
vegetables like ampalaya (bitter gourd), squash, and carrots. This vegetables is so very nutritious
and contains a lot of vitamins that needed by our body.
The Squash Pandesal - As we all know Squash is very nutritious and helps fight
malnutrition and undernutrition because it is fortified with Vitamin A. Serving of a 52-gram of
squash pandesal can provide 24% of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of Vitamin A
and 10% of the daily energy requirement. It is the squash which gave the new pandesal its
yellowish colour. Squash pandesal also known as yellow pandesal can have a shelf life of up to
three days since it can be mass produced free from pathogenic microorganisms such as E.Coli
and Salmonella.
The Ampalaya Pandesal -
Because of the importance of breakfast meal in the nutrition of man, Filipino nutritionist
thought of reinforcing the common breakfast meal of Filipinos by adding vegetables in its
ingredients in early 2000, the earliest form of energized bread types is the malunggay pandesal
which spread across the country.
In line with this trend an innovative baker nutritionist thought of creating ampalaya
pandesal which especially beneficial for diabetic patients. The ampalaya pandesal which
included around dried ampalaya leaves, which make the bread extra healthy especially for
diabetics for controlling blood sugar levels. At the moment, the ampalaya pandesal is not as
