Program Speaker: Jean Ohman, San Ramon Valley Historical Foundation

Our own Jean Ohman, President of the San Ramon Historic Foundation, spoke to us about
the 10 year old organization and its mission of keeping the history of the SRV alive and
honoring the pioneers that settled the valley. The Foundation’s home is located at Forest
Home Farms, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. Ruth
Boone gave the property and its 21 buildings, including the 110 yr old family home and farm
buildings, to the city of San Ramon in 1997, about a year before her death.
Jean told us the story of Travis and Ruth Boone, from the time they built the home, through
the Depression when the nearly lost the farm, to Travis’ ingenuity in developing harvesting
equipment , and sharing what he’d developed with area ranchers. Ruth sold canned produce
grown at the farm that was marketed throughout California.
Another area historical home, the Glass House was moved
adjacent to the FHF in the late 90’s and has undergone a major
restoration project and had it’s grand opening on May 15th. The
SRVHF estimates the cost to restore the Boone House to be in the
range of $6-7 million and is currently looking for grant monies that
may available. The Foundation Board is looking for new members
that may be able to bring some fundraising and legal expertise to
the group.
Forest home Farms is also home to the San Ramon Farmer’s
Market held there on Saturdays, 9 am—1 pm, through October 30.

Recognition
We are pleased to introduce our newest members!

Rene Duddy, Nancy Grossman, Deb Parks, Suzanne Hector, and Terry
Koehne. We look for ward to getting to know you a bit better!!!

Nicole Blazin was also recognized for having had a birthday last week.
Nicole and family celebrated multiple birthdays last week.

Because he wasn’t at the meeting, we also recognized Bill C for a number

of things (6 to be exact), including missing a meeting, inviting guests and not showing up, for being reappointed to the San
Ramon Parks Commission, and for doing a wonderful job as our provisional president. Dorn Driggs, Chris Hempl, Esther
Lucas, Nicole Blazin and Gayle Larson all picked up Bill’s recognitions, which closes out his dues for the year.

On a separate note - a casual poll was taken on the subject of our venue….the overwhelming majority like the idea of
meeting at Bridges.
