Welcome
Congratulations! You have already made it so far in your
academic career, and you should be immensely proud
to start the next leg of your journey in NCCUs
Communication Disorders program. One of the best resources for you in the next two years is a membership in
NCCUs chapter of NSSLHA. As a member of NSSLHA, you
will be given numerous benefits such as: networking, volunteer and community service opportunities, along with
academic and social support among many other benefits. The following packet was created by NCCU-NSSLHAs
Executive Board. It is by no means a comprehensive
packet of everything you need for your first year, but we
tried to include relevant information, such as clinical
forms, tips, and information about what to do around
Durham. It is important to note that in addition to this
packet, you will acquire many helpful resources from the
NCCU Communication Disorders faculty. Additionally, we
recommend becoming a member of National NSSLHA to
gain access to even more resources. We are happy to
have you as new members of NSSLHA and we look forward to a great year together!
Helpful Hints
Read ALL materials provided to you by your supervisor(s)!
Google Docs and Google Hangout are great tools to use for group planning!
Ask your supervisors informed questions (i.e. do the research first) and always cite evidence-based
practice.
If you need help planning - brainstorm ideas and then run them past your supervisor.
Turn in ALL assignments on time (SOAPS, Lesson Plans, Data Sheets, etc.) this will count against you in
your final evaluation!
Set deadlines for when you want group members to turn in their portion of work and document
each persons responsibilities.
There are materials available in the CMC and the clinic BUT start building your clinic kits (Dollar store,
Walmart, Craigslist, Garage/Yard Sales, Amazon, TeachersPayTeachers).
