MARKING DARTS
Marking Darts are
designed solely to put
a visible mark on the
animal. The marking
media is traditionally
not recommended to
be greater than 4 cc.
In fact, amounts of 2
cc marking media have
succeeded for many
customers in-the-field
applications. (standard
volume is 2 cc.) Note:
We do not provide the
marking media used in
our darts.

DELUXE AND
ECONOMY PROJECTOR CASES
Deluxe gun cases are made of high-impact plastic reinforced
with aluminum edges and featuring four locking latches
on the rifle cases and two on the pistol cases. Economy cases are made with high-impact plastic and
plastic latch assemblies.
PISTOL HOLSTER
For those in need of holstering a Model 179B or 190B pistol,
our hi-ride holster is the answer. The hi-ride is a shoulder
strapped, form fitted, belt loop design that greatly enhances stability, carry, and draw. The hi-ride position near the
torso and slightly forward design provide excellent projector retention and allow a quick easy draw for left- and
right-handed shooters. The two-way directional snap holds
the projector firmly in place.
RIFLE SLING
Designed with comfort in mind, these nylon rifle slings lay flat
on your shoulder; they have proven their durability in real-life
situations.

HANDBOOK OF WILDLIFE
CHEMICAL IMMOBILIZATION
Fourth Edition
Terry J. Kreeger, MS, DVM, Ph. D.
Jon M. Arnemo, DVM, Ph. D.
A 418 page, 9" 6" softcover book with drug dosages for
over 250 mammals, birds, and reptiles. A wealth of information that anyone can understand. Dr. Kreeger and
Dr. Arnemo have worked in wildlife management, zoo
management, and animal protection for almost three
decades. Dr. Kreeger is the supervisor of the veterinary Services Branch of the Wyoming Game and Fish
Department. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Wyoming
(Veterinary Sciences) and the University of Minnesota (Fisheries and Wildlife). Dr. Arnemo is a professor of wildlife medicine at the Norwegian School
of Veterinary Science, Section of Artic Veterinary Medicine, Tromso, Norway.
SHOOTING THE BULL (ONLINE SUBSCRIPTION)
Mark Curly Waters
A 124 page, 7" 5" softcover book written by Mark
Curly Waters, a rancher with over 40 years of experience, Shooting the Bull expands on the basic
general information about remote injection systems
previously discussed in his first edition.
The development of cutting-edge equipment by
Pneu-Dart, new advancements in the effectiveness of
drugs by pharmaceutical companies, and extensive
personal experience led Waters to write his follow-up to Shooting the Bull.
In the first edition, Waters catered to the needs of new
customers with little to no remote drug delivery experience. Topics ranged
from how to sight a projector, to equipment maintenance, to the correct selection
of drugs for each dart. In his latest edition, Waters expands on that basic knowledge with detailed descriptions and personal stories designed to appeal to novice
and experienced users alike.
The bottom line is I tried to encompass the whole spectrum of the PneuDart remote injection systems and put it into an understandable manner for
new users as well as the people that have been using remote injection as a
cost saving herd management tool for some time. There is a proper way and an
improper way to make remote injections. People who read the book should be
much more efficient, Waters said.
If you are looking to expand your knowledge of Pneu-Dart products and learn
about the importance and benefits of proper remote injection, order your copy
of Shooting the Bull today.

In order to correctly calculate the drug dosage required to immobilize a particular animal, the worker must know three factors.
1. Estimated weight of the animal. If the weight of the animal is estimated in pounds (lbs), it should be converted to kilograms (kg) as dosages
are expressed in mg/kg (milligram of drug per kilogram of body weight)
required to produce immobilization. One lb equals .454 kg and the conversion is made by multiplying the estimated lbs by .454. Thus, a 100 lb
animal weighs 45.4 kg. Because 1.0 lb is almost equal to 1/2 kg, a simpler
conversion can be made by dividing the estimated weight in lbs by 2. By
this method the 100-lb animal weighs 50 kg. Because of the difficulty in
accurately estimating the weight of an animal and the safety margin of
the CNS drugs, this simpler conversion is acceptable for fieldwork.

2. The dosage recommended for the species. This is the dosage recommended to produce immobilization in a particular species. Dosage recommendations may be provided by a veterinarian, the drug package insert,
or by consulting dosage tables in reference literature. The suggested
dosage tables are given in mg/kg (milligram of drug per kilogram of body
weight.)
3. Concentration of the drug used. The concentration (solution strength)
of the drug is listed on the label of the vial, on the package, and in the
package insert. It is given as mg/ml (milligram of drug per milliliter of
liquid volume). To minimize the drug volume, and consequent size of the
dart, the highest available concentration of a given drug should be used.
For all practical purposes, 1.0 ml (milliliter) is equal to 1.0 cc (cubic centimeter)
of liquid volume. On the basis of these three factors, the drug dosage is calculated as follows:
Animal weight (kg) dosage (mg/kg) / Concentration of drug (mg/ml) =
drug volume in ml or cc.
The manner in which a drug may effect an animal and the level of immobilization produced are subject to a number of factors. In addition to the animals
weight, age, sex, physical condition, and mental state at the time of injection,
individual animals will have varying degrees of sensitivity to the drug. This
can produce different and unexpected results from one animal to another even
within the same species. Excitable animals will usually require a higher dosage
than calm animals. Also, females may require a higher dosage than males to
produce a satisfactory level of immobilization.
For more information regarding drug dosage and field dispensing of drugs, we
highly recommend the Handbook of Wildlife Chemical Immobilization found on
page 34.
FIELD DISPENSING OF DRUGS
The drugs used for animal immobilization may be dispensed in one of two ways.
The choice of drugs and prevailing circumstances will be the deciding factors.
The first method consists of loading the darts after the target animal has been
located and observed. The animals weight is estimated and its physical and mental
condition noted. Other factors which may influence the choice of drug dosage are
age, sex, stress level, and aggressiveness. On this basis, the dosage is calculated
and loaded in a dart of suitable volume capacity. This is the safest method and
provides the best control of dosage, induction time and level of immobilization. The disadvantages of this method are the time required to calculate the
dosage and load the darts, and the problems of dispensing drugs and filling
darts under difficult field conditions.
The second method consists of the use of darts loaded before the animal is
located or observed. This method can only be used for the central nervous system

drugs because their relatively wide safety margin makes accurate weight estimation
less critical for dosage calculation. Darts can be preloaded by a veterinarian for
a certain species and size of animal and given to the worker as may be required.
(Note: Preloading darts is not recommended. If you choose to preload, the darts
should be used within 24 hours.)
