What is a Learning Log and Why a Learning Log?

A Learning Log is a journal which evidences your own learning and skills development. It is not just a diary or
record of What you have done but a record of what you have learnt, tried and critically reflected upon.
For example if in your Learning Log you include details of what you did or how you did something then consider
asking yourself questions such as:

Did it go well? Why? What did you learn?

Did it go badly? Why? What did you learn?

How can you improve for next time

A Learning Log contains your record of your experiences, thoughts, feelings and reflections. One of the most
important things it contains is your conclusions about how what you have learnt is relevant to you and how you
will use the new information/knowledge/skill/technique in the future.

Instructions for Learning Log: FOR THIS SECOND UNIT AND SO ON

Dear students, this learning log is just a new process and a new activity that will be done in EVERY SINGLE DAY of
our classes. What I want you to do individually is to reflect and think about your daily learning process. This is my
main OBJECTIVE. YOU REFLECTING and PROCESSING about the topics or- and exercises that we do at my classes.

These are the instructions: I am attaching this document with the general instruction of learning log. Also, I am
attaching the learning log format.
1. You have to print all your formats by your own. You are responsible of having several formats printed
and ready for every single class, NOT ME.
2. MY ADVICE Print one format from your computer and then, take several copies from the photocopier.
3. The learning logs are going to be glued in your notebook sheets. You will write the information in the
learning log formats but the learning log formats MUST BE GLUED in your notebook.
4. If you do not bring a learning log format because you forgot to print or to take copies, I will have several
printed in my class THE ONLY THING IS THAT, I WILL PUNISH YOU every single time that you ask me for
one. These are the effects of your irresponsibility:
I will have a list of your name. Every time you ask for one, I will mark your name. IF YOU GET 3
failures of irresponsibility. I will give you a REPORT and you will have to stay with me at recess or at
lunch doing your learning log process and some extra work. SO BE RESPONSIBLE!
WHY AM I DOING THIS? I want you to be responsible of your own process, and I want you to be at track of my
classes. I believe in you and I know you wont be in this situation of irresponsibility.
5. Even though, we have practice activities or quizzes in which you wont write theory. You have to specify in
only one space your learning log process of that day.

6. I will grade the learning logs weekly and daily. EVERY SINGLE WEEK YOU HAVE TO HAVE 5 reflections. So,
you MUST have my STAMP every single day. If you dont have my stamp in the learning log format, that
means that you didnt give it to me. So, I wont grade you because of irresponsibility.
7. The learning logs have to be clear and specific. I NEED YOU TO WRITE:.
- What did you learn? (Your own words explaining what you learn.) If you want to write me that you
did not understand the topic well, I NEED YOU to WRITE THAT. So, I will help you understand it
better. But WRITE IT!
8. LEARNING LOGS are individual. Do not copy from another friend. Your process is individual.

9. If you are absent one day. Catch up with the content, AND WRITE IN THE LEARNING LOG. THAT YOU WERE
ABSENT THAT DAY. But, WRITE YOUR REFLECTION ABOUT WHAT YOU CATCH UP. I wont give you
a stamp IF YOU DO NOT PRESENT ME YOUR EXCUSE SIGNED BY
COORDINATION.
10. Use Pen for these learning logs. DO NOT USE PENCIL.
11.Do not forget to write the date and use d'nealian handwriting.
I WILL EXPLAIN EVERY STEP IN THE CLASS. I WILL CLARIFY ANY DOUBT YOU MIGHT HAVE. DO NOT GET
STRESS. DO NOT WORRY. THIS WILL BE MEANINGFUL FOR YOU. I BELIEVE IN YOU.
