EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
A study on MARKET POTENTIAL OF 4G RELIANCEwas carried out in the
southern part of Bengaluru city. The study was carried out to find out the
market potential of 4G network, customers perception towards 4G
network and market potential of Reliance 4G network.
The study was carried out based on the sample size of 150 people in the
southern part of Bengaluru city. The primary data was collected through
the means of structured questionnaire. Whereas the secondary data was
collected through News articles and various publications regarding 4G
network.

INTRODUCTION
4G, short for fourth generation, is the fourth generation of mobile
telecommunications

technology,

succeeding

3G.

4G

Technology

is

basically the extension in the 3G technology with more bandwidth and

services offers in the 3G.
This research topic 4g was taken as 4G is still in the cloud of creating
the sensible standards for the market by considering of the market
situation and reviewing market acceptance and adoption of wireless data
and deployments of 4G,so the company can find the opportunity in 4g
market therefore attract maximum customers for 4G,Network service
providers can investigate users experiences of latest booming Internet
forces

to provide high data rate regardless of mobility .The market

perception on reliance 4G as they are coming up with this technology after

the launch by other service provider , hereby identifying the acceptance of
reliance 4G network by the market.
This research is about the finding of available market for mobile data
market and the impact of the 4G data network by reliance on the
market. And to identify the reason behind why market is not ready to
switch from any mobile network to 4G. Whetherthe market feels use of the
4G service will be very similar to that of the 3G service. Since 3G mobile is
still in the market, it squeezes the market competition in the mobile
industry.

To find the awareness among people on 4G mobile technology, as this

network will give people a more convenience and ease in lifestyle. With
the anytime, anywhere, anything, capability, 4G wireless technology will
benefit every individual regardless of time and place.
Through this research vision of 4G service is given. Since 3G mobile is still
in the market, it squeezes the market competition in the mobile industry
and identify is it inevitable that 4G would completely replace 3G in a long
run. Nevertheless, 4G and 3G tend to keep a co-competitive relationship
in a short run. In order for 4G to grow in the future market, it is
unavoidable to compete with 3G and acquire 3Gs customers by analyzing
and investigating through samples by survey.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
The research speaks about the finding of available market for 4G mobile
data network.

To find the market potential for the 4G mobile data network in urban

area.

To find out Customer perception towards 4G network.

To know the customer awareness and perception on reliance 4G

mobile network.

To identify the market potential for reliance 4G mobile network.

To identify whether 3G is the reason for stopping people from

switching to 4G mobile data network.

RESEARCH MOTIVATION
The main reason behind the research is to understand market potential of
4G .4G network is new & latest technology in the market. The research is
done to understand its market potential & costumer perception towards
4G network. The motive factor to do this research was the popularity
gained by 4G network. Many mobile users are already using 4G enabled
handset despite the fact the 4G network hasnt widely launched. These
factors influenced in doing research on market potential of 4G. Recent
research shows that one out three smartphone shipped in India are 4G
enabled.
The research also want to understand how Reliance Jio going to penetrate
4G market in India. The company is expected to acquire 80 million 4G
customers by 2 years with more than half to switch over Indias top three
carriers Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. This fact is one of
the motive factor to understand customer perception of currently active
4G networks.

This research will help Reliance Jio to understand customer expectations

and understand their requirements from service provider. It will also help
in decision making regarding pricing strategy and customer preference for
4G network.
Researchers suggest that Indian market has the potential to become 3rd
largest 4G users in the world.

Literature Review
The purpose to utilize the bandwidth efficiently is to provide services
which have a wide coverage and users can get the data rate which is
higher. 4G network is expected to integrate with WDCMA, GSM, LTE but in
many remote areas only one of the networks are serving, which is a
problem as the network services are not fully utilized.
Bandwidth utilization was a very important issue for the network operators
as their profits were dependent on the same. Therefore, every operator
was trying to get the highest benefit from the network which is available
to earn the profit.
Evaluation of the wireless network

1G was the first generation of the wireless mobile communication system

which was based on an analogue system and used for public voice
services which was having a high speed of 2.4kbps.
The 2G was introduced which is a second generation of the wireless
mobile communication. 2G was based on digital technology. As compared
with the previous generation, 2G can support the text messaging which
was successful. The success of the previous network and growth is their
demand for online information via internet made the company to develop
and format the cellular wireless system and improves their data
connection and which lead to the evolution of third generation 3G.
Creating a universal infrastructure is one of the goals of the 3G network
which was able to support future services as well as existing services. The
infrastructure is to be designed so that the technological changes can be
done without compromising with the services which already exists on the
network.
3G networks are supposed to be superfast network which provides the
data rates of 144.4 kbps to 384.4 kbps in the wide coverage areas and 2
mbps of data in the total coverage area. Therefore, 3G is meant to be
faster as the third generation includes features like roaming, multimedia
services, broadband services, superior voice quality, 2 mbps of data
services.
The success of 3G led to the evolution of 4G (4th generation wireless
network). 4G network has the ability to provide service to wide range of
cellular devices which can support the global economy and each of their
devices are able to access and interact with the internet based
information.
4G was developed by the Defence Research Project Agency (DARPA) and it
was the organization which first developed the wired internet.
4G supports LTE, GSM, WCDMA data services which serve the user to get
connectivity from any of the data available so that the device can be

connected. With the integration of all the services, the 4G network was
able to provide the total coverage and roaming facilities and was the best
connected services than the previous generation of cellular networks.
The main purpose of the 4th generation network is that the work which
can be done at office or at home with a wired connection, the same work
can be done with a wireless 4G network connection.

SAMPLING TECHNIQUE
In this research random sampling technique is used as it is the easiest to
understand and easy to implement in a realistic marketing research
project. This technique is very easy to do when there is relatively small
number of people are taken as the sample size. But when we deal with
typical marketing research problems, the numbers are quite large, and

more importantly, the exact numbers are not known. This creates a very
practical difficulty for the marketing researcher who wish to use random
technique. To illustrate what random sampling technique is, assume that
we wish to estimate the average income level of 100 employees of a
company. We do not have access to their income levels, so we have to
interview them to find out their income levels. Assume that we have
decided to take a sample of 5, randomly selected from 100.
So in our research, we have used Random Sampling Technique for
collecting and analysing the data. Before starting our research we had to
select the region, from where we have to collect the data. For this
research we have taken Southern Bangalore, where research is done. All
the data were collected by a structured questionnaire prepared by our
group ijn the Google form, in which questions were related to 4G and 3G
mobile networks. This questionnaire was sent to different people in
southern Bangalore and they were requested to fill up that form and share
their views. From that questionnaire we got around 100 responses. Those
responses were analyzed using SPSS.
For the collection of the data we mainly targeted 3 groups of people:
-Students
-Government employees
-Private sector employees
And the people who were selected for this research are of age group from:
18-30 years
31-40 years
41-50 years
51-60 years
We have selected students for this research because these are the main
customers of any new technology which is launched in the market. And 4G
was the latest technology which was launched in the telecommunication

10

industry. They promised good network coverage anywhere and excellent

internet speed which is the key element for any telecommunication
company. So we have also targeted students for our research.
Government employees and private sector employees were selected
because in todays corporate world and even in government offices
linkage from the outside world is most important and these employees
can afford this service as it is little costlier than 3G. So we have targeted
these groups. Mainly the 4g users are in between the age group of 18-45
years.
