Setup Directions:

Sound and waves Wave on a string Click the picture that has a

play button in the middle

2. Select oscillate, no end, set damping to zero, and click rulers

3. Now were ready to investigate. Follow the directions below

Activity Directions:
1. Press pause and draw the wave as you see it on the screen. Draw only
the wave and horizontal ruler. Record the frequency.
a. What is the wavelength of this wave?
2. Press play and select the timer check box.
a. If the frequency is 1.5 Hz, determine what that means in terms of
the number of waves per second.

b. Write a hypothesis about what might happen to the wavelength if


you increase the frequency.
3. Play time. Move the frequency slider around in order to get an idea of
the relationship between wavelength and frequency.
a. Write an explanation in your own words of the relationship
between the wavelength and the frequency.
