PROGRAM STUDENT OUTCOMES

The following program student outcomes are addressed in this course:
A. Design a metallurgical plant, component, or process to meet desired needs
within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political,
ethical, health and safety, manufacturability and sustainability, in accordance
with standards;
B. Recognize, formulate, and solve engineering problems in the field of
metallurgical engineering;
C. An understanding of the effects of engineering solutions in a comprehensive
context.
D. Engage in life-long learning in order to keep abreast of the current developments
in the specific filed of practice

II.

COURSE OUTCOMES
At end of this course, the student should be able to:
COURSE OUTCOMES
1. Design a metallurgical plant that addresses technical and
economic constraints, as well as other constraints such as
environmental, health & safety, manufacturability &
sustainability.
2. Prepare a material balance and where applicable an energy
balance of the entire metallurgical plant
3. Select equipment that will address the constraints and
satisfy the design criteria.
4. Document the design project in a formal written report and
prepare a concise multi-media presentation that will be
presented in a technical forum

*Note: Write your schedule for 2nd semester AY 2014-2015 at the back of the index
card.

b. Long exams and final exam

No make-up for seatwork and problems sets missed will be administered.
Missed items will be given zero credit, unless proof of an acceptable excuse is
presented. The following documents are acceptable:
Medical certificate from the University Clinic to show proof of a serious illness or
injury;
Photocopy of death certificate of an immediate family member; and
Certificate showing proof that the student is a delegate or contestant
representing MSU-IIT

1st Semester AY 2016-2017

If an acceptable excuse is provided, the student will be given a grade of INC

provided that it is still possible for him/her to pass the course.
c. Quizzes, seatwork and problem sets
Quizzes will be given when deemed necessary, and will be announced at least one
meeting in advance. Seatworks will be given during or after the lectures. Problem
sets will be given at least one week before the deadline. Students are expected to
submit their individual, original work unless otherwise specified.
d. Group Report on the Design Project
The report consists of two parts. The first part is a written report giving the
description of the project, the computations related to the design, and the final
design specifications and plant specifications. The second part is the presentation,
preferably in PowerPoint format which is to be given to the class. Questions must be
satisfactorily answered at the presentation. The student will also be asked to submit
a design project assessment form. None submission will mean a grade of INC if the
students standing is passing, and a 5 if failing.

CLASS POLICIES
a. Attendance
Attendance is not a must but it is preferred. At least one member of each
group must present in each class session. Otherwise a deduction in the report
scored will be levied as a penalty.
b. Dropping
A student is considered officially dropped upon completion of the dropping process,
whereupon the student is reflected as DROPPED in MSU-IIT student code.
c. Academic Integrity
It is expected that the student follow the highest principles of academic honesty.
When individual work is required, any form of work that will be submitted should be
their own or should have the work of others clearly documented and acknowledged.

1st Semester AY 2016-2017

All students must be committed to the principles of intellectual honesty and

integrity. Once found responsible of an academic dishonesty violation (cheating,
fabrication, plagiarism, sabotage, participation in academically dishonest activities,
facilitating academic dishonesty), a student will be subjected to the University's
rules and regulations which may result to a failing mark and expulsion from the
university.
Definition of intellectual dishonesty as any fraudulent act
performed by a student to achieve academic advantage or gain
for oneself or others, including but not limited to: plagiarism,
fabrication, copying or submission of the same work in two or
more courses.
Cheating in quizzes, homework, and exams, as well as academic dishonesty in
general, will not and never be tolerated. Any attempt at cheating in any requirement
will entail the student an automatic grade of 5.00, and the case will be forwarded to
the Department of Student Affairs. Course withdrawals to avoid getting a
grade of 5.0 will not be permitted.
d. Consultation
Students who wish to consult must set an appointment within the instructors
consultation hours. Appointments can be made through mobile phone
(09178455742, 09328755742), email or Facebook and must be set at least 24 hours
ahead of intended consultation time.
e. Special Services
If you are a student with special needs and require accommodations, you must be
registered with the Universitys Guidance and Counselling Office (GCO). Students
must provide current documentation to which identifies their special needs and
need for accommodation(s). Students must meet instructors with appropriate
notification from GCO of the approved accommodation as early in the semester as
possible.
