Day: M T W T F Date: 31/8/16 Time: 10 minutes per group (5 groups) Year: pre-primary

Learning Area: Maths Topic: 3D Memory
Curriculum content description:

Sort, describe and name familiar two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional objects in the
environment (ACMMG009)
Students prior knowledge and experience:
(Outline what the students already know about this topic)

Have some knowledge about 3D shapes and know the game.

Learning purpose:

Sorting and describing squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, spheres and cubes.
Recognizing (telling student what the name of shape and them pointing to them) and identifying
(me saying the shape and then them pointing to it) 3D shapes
Learning objectives:
On completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

Objective for this task is for the kids to recognise
and identify 3D shapes.

Preparation and Resources:

3D shape Memory cards
Table- Pink

Evaluation:

By students recognising or identifying 3D shapes.

Catering for diversity

The kids are placed in ability-based groups all of different levels.
For the higher-level students I will be asking them to Name the shape.
Lower level I will be making it a bit easier by helping them out by sounding the beginning of the name.

Timing:

Learning Experiences:

1. Introduction:

Get kids to sit down around the table

Get their attention
Lay the cards facing down

Explain to the kids the game today.
Today is a memory game learning about shape. Pick two cards, does the shape
and name match.
If they dont match you have to give the name of the shape.

2.

Sequence of learning experiences:

Model the game:
Pick two cards
If the cards match stay facing up if they dont name the shape and then turn it
back over.

Play Game:
In a clockwise circle get the kids to each pick two cards.
If the shape matches the name then the cards stay facing up
If the shape doesnt match the name then they name the shape and turn it back
over.
Continue until all the cards are matched.
Once 10 minutes is over change groups. (There are 5 groups.)

3. Lesson conclusion:
Getting everyone to pack up
Listen to the teachers instructions
Sit on the mat

Lesson Evaluation:
(Reflect on the lesson. What worked? What did not work? What would you change? Why?)
I think the lesson went well, I gave the student the instructions and set my expectations at the start of the lesson
with each group, and they also listened and followed what I told them. There were a couple of things that wasnt
working at the start of the lesson so I had to change it as I went along. At the beginning of the game I had to the
cards laid out and all in a different order. The student had a hard time so I had to rearrange the card so that I had
the picture cards at the top and names of the shapes cards at the bottom. After I had made that change the
student seemed to get the game more easily. As the different ability level student come through I either made the
game harder or easier. To make it easier for the student, I would help by sounding the start of the shapes name,
and to make it more difficult I had the student tell me what it was without help.
Things that worked well was that the kids listened to my instructions and asked for help when they needed it, they
worked well together, and they all had good behaviour for the most part. Things that didnt work well were that
they all went one at a time, which took a little bit of time and it was slow. Another thing that didnt work well was
the layout of the card at the start of the game; it proved too hard to match the cards. The things I would change
for next time will be that in the small group I would divide them into two groups and have the game smaller so it
will take less time to wait so that the game is quicker and more people get to play.
