Purpose, and Genres, Using beginning and ending sounds &
Reread the text
By the end of the 1st 9 weeks; your child should be
able to read 60 wpm with 3 or fewer errors.
Spelling Pattern: Magic e
High Frequency Words: By the end of the 1st 9 weeks
your child needs to be able to read 300 words from
the Fry Word list.
Language/Writing: Antonyms, Sentence Types, &
Organizational Structures of a Narrative
Math: Place Value, Comparing two and three digit
numbers, Odd and Even
By the end of the 1st 9 weeks; your child should be
able to add 30 addition problems in 2 minutes or less.

In House Field Trip

Tuesday, October 11
The STEM Academy will be visiting the
second graders. Please send in $6.00
for the field trip. This money will cover
the cost of a virtual planetarium and
the STEM science activities the
children will take part in. Please send
the $6.00 in an envelope with your
childs name, teachers name, and field
trip written on it.

Dictation Grade
(Capitalization/Punctuation)
The dictation sentences on your childs
spelling test is a recorded grade in the
grade book. It will be part of your childs
Language Arts grade. Every week there
will be 2 dictation sentences. Each
capital letter and ending mark (. ? !) is
worth 20 points. Spelling words are
worth 5 points. (totaling 100).
