Cinderella By: Sahithi Tupuri

What three universal truths of human experiences are illustrated in global variations of
Cinderella? Use evidence from your own discovery and the presentations to support your
response.
Three universal truths illustrated by global variations of Cinderella are good always wins
out over evil, magical elements help good people and royalty hurts some people. For example,
Cinderella always finds way around her mean and evil sisters and stepmother because she is
innocent. In the Irish version, a cowboy comes to the rescue and saves Cinderella from the curse
that she bears. Soon she wins her husband back from her evil stepsister. This suggests that good
always wins over evil. Also, magical elements such as magical trees and talking animals help
Cinderella in winning over evil and to marry royalty, her dream. Cinderella, in most variations,
turns to a magical element that aids her throughout her struggle. In the Haitian version,
Cinderella plants a magical tree that gives very tasty oranges. The stepmother becomes jealous
and makes Cinderella take her to the tree. The stepmother then climbs the tree and is in its
branches when Cinderella rocks the tree with her mind and kills her stepmother. This shows that
magical elements help good people. Furthermore, royalty seems to be the reason the stepmother
is evil. She turns evil because of pride. They want to become royalty in many versions, so they
hide Cinderella, as in the most common version from Europe, and boss her to create a feeling of
power. In the Irish version, the stepsisters dress very richly, aided mostly by Cinderella, and go to
the ball. Royalty creates pride but Cinderella overcomes the temptations of royalty because she is
very innocent. Finally in all of the versions across all the regions three universal truths can be
seen. They are good will always win, magical elements help good people and royalty hurts some
people.
