Things Fall Apart

For this assignment, you should write a three page, double spaced paper on
Things Fall Apart. I would like you to focus on the way that Achebe uses the
oral tradition in his writing; he uses sayings and stories throughout the novel,
referring both to mens tales of war, and womens story-telling traditions.
The art of speaking and narrative-making is clearly important in the culture
he depicts, and the novel is both another form of story-telling, and yet quite
different. Make an argument about how he brings the oral tradition into the
novel, and why he does it in that way; ground your argument in specific
examples, and if you like, you can discuss one particular instance in detail.
