Common Core this month

Math- Counting from 1 to 100. Students will be

able to begin counting from any given number
and develop number sense.
Writing- Write upper and lower case letters
correctly. Write a narrative that incorporates
a sequence of events using temporal words and
includes a closing.
Reading- Review Letterland sounds and
characters. Begin working with word families.
Learning to self- select appropriate leveled
books using the five finger method. Students
will begin working on READ TO SELF A
component of the Daily 5 structure: reading
independently to build stamina.

Science- Sand, salt, and silt

Social Studies- I am a citizen

Technology Tidbits
Our school has memberships with websites Pebblego,
Tumblebooks, as well as Big Universe. The Peeblego
and Tumblebooks website is linked to the Conn
website under first grade. Please ask your childs
teacher for login information if youd like to utilize
these websites at home like we do here at school!

First Grade Parent Notes

Weekly Reports-Please discuss with your child
his/her Weekly Report, sign it, and return it back to
school the following day, Wednesday. There is space
available for you to ask questions, make comments,
and respond to questions
Students may need a light jacket or sweater.
The classrooms are sometimes chilly.
Homework- is valued; therefore, we expect all
students to be responsible by completing their
homework with/without adult help and on time.
Homework will be modeled and reviewed in class
before required to complete independently.
Snacks- Students will have snack daily.
SNACK WILL NOT BE PROVIDED.

Assessments- We will begin Mclass beginning of

the year assessments a few weeks into first
quarter. Letterland Spelling Assessments will
begin in first quarter. Math Assessments
evaluating number sense from numbers 1-120.
