ThePolareffectorelectroniceffectinchemistryistheeffectexertedbyasubstituentonmodifyingelectrostatic
forcesoperatingonanearbyreactioncenter.Themaincontributorstothepolareffectaretheinductiveeffect,
mesomericeffectandthethroughspaceelectronicfieldeffect.
AnelectronwithdrawinggrouporEWGdrawselectronsawayfromareactioncenter.Whenthiscenterisan
electronrichcarbanionoranalkoxideanion,thepresenceoftheelectronwithdrawingsubstituenthasastabilizing
effect.
