PROJECT OUTLINE
A retaining structure was required to stabilise a railway line embankment at the Dendrobium Coal Mine in Mt
Kembla. Due to the proximity of the railway line to the toe of the embankment and groundwater issues, a freedraining gabion retaining structure was deemed to be the most simple and cost-effective solution.
A tight schedule on the construction program meant that the wall needed to be completed expeditiously without
compromising safety and quality.
Mainland Civil engaged the services of an experienced sub-contractor, Nviroscope Pty Ltd, to carry out the gabion
works and the final result was a success for both parties.
