Why is the RCSD considering a bond issue?

The last time the Rankin County School District passed a bond issue was over 15 years ago. The
children that were kindergarteners that year are now in college or well into their careers. Rankin
County is one of the fastest growing areas in Mississippi and the metro area. Updated and new
facilities are key to home values as well as bringing in businesses and keeping the ones we have.
When will the bond issue take place?
On June 22, 2016 the Rankin County Board of Education voted to tentatively set the bond
issue vote for March 7, 2017.
How much will the bond issue be, and what will it include?
We are combining the information we received from the PHASE I Great to BEST Bond
Issue Listening Tour with the information from our facility and usage study as well as the
demographic study. Once the information is combined, we will create options for all eight
communities. These options will be presented at the October 19th RCSD Board meeting and
again at each communitys PHASE II Great to BEST Bond Issue Informational/Listening Tour.
Who is invited to the Great to BEST Listening Tours?
Everyone with a stake in the RCSD is invited to attend and give their feedback.
