ALKENES
Reactions:
Ozonolysis of Alkenes:
Ozone (O3) is the tri-atomic form of oxygen and it can be represented as a hybrid of its two
most stable Lewis structures.

Ozone is a powerful electrophile and undergoes a remarkable reaction with alkenes in

which both the and components of the carboncarbon double bond are broken to give a
five-membered product, an ozonide. The unstable ozonide can then be reduced to afford
carbonyl compounds.
