Lieutenant Governor joins OCAD University to

present contemporary art exhibition Other Worlds
Toronto, September 19, 2016. In collaboration with OCAD University, Her Honour the Honourable Elizabeth
Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will launch Other Worlds on Tuesday, September 20. This
contemporary art exhibition features works by faculty and recent graduates of OCAD University.
The placement of this exhibition of contemporary artworks within the Lieutenant Governors suite at Queens
Park embodies a rare and unusual meeting between these two worlds. Highly experimental contemporary
works brush up against an important ceremonial location of historical significance.
Other Worlds invites viewers to witness how our perspectives shift when dissimilar elements collide: when light
encounters darkness, flatness yields to depth, and fantasy mingles with reality. Its vividly affirms the value of
embracing ties with those beyond our borders while at the same time seeking to strengthen ones own
community. Just as the artists have created works that examine the convergence of disparate visual worlds,
visitors are encouraged to make space in their lives to engage with unfamiliar cultures, groups, and social
issues. In the shadow of an increasingly globalized and crowded world, Other Worlds proclaims that there is
much to gain by bringing more of Ontario to the world, and by inviting more of the world to Ontario.

Following the launch of Other Worlds, members of the public are invited to view the exhibition in person and on
selected days during tours of the Legislative Assembly at Queens Park. Tour information, as well as an online
version of the exhibition, will be available on the Lieutenant Governors website at
arts.lgontario.ca/otherworlds.
