CNC Laser Engraver, Business Venture

Conducted surveys into LFP battery life expectancy, cycle performance and state of charge estimations
Researched performance of various emerging battery technologies suited towards intermittent charging
Simulated MPPT hardware solar cell converters in Simulink and LTspice
Designed control system and inverter for a wind turbine PMSG using DQO axis control in Simulink

Designed test flow to conduct silicon validation on cutting edge SSDs (power and ECC)
Discovered a bug in ECC model using Python scripts; alleviated concerns about actual silicon ECC integrity
Designed library in Python to simulate data flows through SSD, increasing testing turn-around time
Designed procedures and hardware to cool silicon which detected issues at lower temperatures
Provided guidance and solutions relating to ECC during silicon bring up of brand new ASICs
Found several ASIC and environmental discrepancies and bugs saving possible re-spins or product redefinitions

Designed high voltage flyback DC/DC converter utilizing snubbers, cycle-by-cycle current control and variable
voltage ramp features. Wrote firmware for dsPIC33 to control the converter functionality
Specified requirements for magnetics of the flyback transformer
Laid out converter PCB and Railgun features to minimize high voltage hazards and arcing

Participated in power stage design, control and MPPT algorithm of solar cell battery charger
Gained experience working with Lead-Acid batteries, wrote firmware to take batteries through charge cycles
Conducted theoretical analysis to determine component values for current sense circuits and main inductor
Successfully designed sensors and high-side gate drives taking into account switching speeds, cost, and power
Soldered PCB and conducted testing to prove correct functionality and troubleshot errors

mOhm Meter, Personal Project

Designed a .0001 resolution mOhm meter to measure small resistances using the force/sense method
Used PGAs to achieve large dynamic range for ADC eliminating the need for costly high accuracy ADCs
PCB designed in Altium Designer; special care taken to increase front end sensitivity
Ergonomically designed front panel; used high speed LED 7 segment display with rapid update rates

DQO PMSM Wind Turbine Simulation, SFU (Research Assistant)

Implemented a PMSG controller in Simulink to track optimal tip velocity for MPPT
Researched DQ axis theory for induction and permanent magnet motors
Designed a PI DQO controller to regulate torque to achieve optimal tip velocity was achieved
Implemented six leg three phase inverter with SPWM to control PMSG

NTSC Video Decoder, SFU

Designed a high speed (5Mhz) NTSC video decoder using analog circuitry
Designed vertical and horizontal syncing circuits. Implemented high speed buffers and filters with opamps
Utilized current feedback operational amplifiers to achieve high bandwidth

Analog Signal Delay Line, Personal Project

Designed a digitally implemented analog delay based around a serial SRAM and a dsPIC33
Utilized SPI communication to access 1MBIT memory chip where a buffer was implemented
Simulated analog portion of the circuit in LTSpice, PCB was designed in Altium Designer
Synchronized operation of DAC/ADC/Memory read/writes to achieve proper delay line operation
