MAIN FUNCTIONS OF A TRAILER

Usually not in order

Doesnt reveal too much

Reveals all/ most important characters

Narrative/ over voice

Shows action/ climactic scenes

Insight into the plot/ story

Pace of editing and change of scenes changes in time with soundtrack

TYPES OF TRAILERS

When creating a trailer the creators will have to decide if it is going to be a; teaser trailer or a
theatrical trailer.

There are many differences between the two

Teaser Trailers are;

Theatrical Trailers are;

Cut and played in cinemas in early stages of


the promotional campaign

Usually about 1/1.30 minutes long

Aim of it is to tease and entice audiences

Creates anticipation and excitement long


before it will be released

Usually 2/3 minutes long


Showcases stars
Played 3/4 weeks before the film is released
Visual images shown are very short
Given classification
Dramatic camera angles
Highlights best bits of the film without context
Voiceovers used to tell story/ give information
One liners of conversation
Title may not appear until the end
If a big movie, may be multiple trailers
Ends with a climatic scene
