Prairie Ridge Royalty

In conjunction with Scotty Homecoming Day this
past Friday, the Prairie Ridge Village held royalty
festivities as well. Charlotte Wigness, soon to be
102, was crowned Queen and Gene Etchart, age 99,
was crowned King. Their crown bearers included
Charlottes great-great grandsons, the three younger
Cornwell brothers, Jack (top left), JP (below Jack) and

Charlie (center), and Genes great granddaughter,

Gina Page. Tom Thompson, Charlottes grandson,
pointed out that all five generations were represented
in the Homecoming Parade: her daughter
Sharon Thompson, granddaughter Deb Cornwell
(grandmother to Jake, Jack, JP and Charlie) and
great granddaughter Brandi Johnson.

Weekend rodeo is tobacco free

Thanks to the diligent work of the Montana Tobacco

Use Prevention Program and the Montana High School
Rodeo Association, Montana was the first state in the
nation to have a Tobacco-Free Rodeo. MTUPP and
MHSRA partnered in 2008 to prove that they have
taken a stand and continue to speak out about Tobacco
having no place in our Montana High School Rodeos!
MTUPP has given substantial scholarships to
contestants each year. Any senior in good standing with
MHSRA, regardless of state of residence, may apply for
the scholarship. For the 2016-17 Rodeo year, 6 finalists
will be chosen from all scholarship applicants. The 6
finalists will each interview during the State Finals. The
Scholarship Awards will be as follows: 2 - $5,000.00, 2 $2,500.00, and 2 - $ 1,000.00.
Contestants are encouraged to sign a TobaccoFree Rodeo Pledge (available at the reACT booth) and
share the message about the Rodeo with their peers.
Contestants must sign a Pledge before they can begin
accumulating points toward the year-end prizes.
More information is available on the reACT and
MHSRA websites. MTUPP and reACT Tobacco-Free
Rodeo will be one of the sponsors during the Montana
High School Rodeo Finals to be held in Baker June 2017.
The Tobacco Free Rodeo Series Rodeo will be held
at the Northeast Montana Fairgrounds in Glasgow on
Saturday, September 24th, and Sunday, September 25th.

The
Sheep
Shearers?

Since the theme

was Shear the
Sheep, Valley
Veterinary Clinic
had a float in the
Scotty Homecoming
Parade featuring
a live sheep.
Employees Jana
Tihista and Josey
Uphaus, a couple
of cowgirls, were in
charge of keeping
the critter calm. We
just wonder if they
sheared the sheep
at the conclusion
of the parade as
the Scotties did
to the Big Timber
Sheepherders later
that evening.
