JOB SATISFACTION
INTRODUCTION:
Several years ago the only compensation that most employees received from their
jobs was a pay cheques. As time passed this changed, as employees began to demand
and receive more from their jobs. Todays employees are receiving a variety of
compensation,, including
health
numerous
other
benefits
and
programmed. However, one thing that employee of two generation ago and today have in
common in them is that, their jobs constitute a major part of their lives, and are one of
the greater sources of personal pleaser and pain. While jobs can be satisfying in some
regards, with positive feeling of accomplishments and purpose, they can also be source
of negative feelings.
DEFINITION:
The term job satisfaction refers to an individuals general attitude towards his or
her job. A person with a high level of jobs satisfaction holds positive attitude about the
jobs, while a person who is dissatisfaction with his or her jobs holds negative attitude
towards the jobs.
Job satisfaction consists of the feelings and attitude of a person with respect to
his or her job. All aspects of particular jobs, good or bad, positive or negative, is likely
to contribute to the development of feelings of satisfaction (or dissatisfaction).
Page 32
VRISHAB ENTERPRISES
FACTORS OF THE JOB SATISFACTION:
There are different factors on which job satisfaction depends. Important are as discussed
here.
Personal factors
Page 33
VRISHAB ENTERPRISES
1] Personal factors:
They include employees sex, education, age, marital status and their personal
characteristics, family background, socio-economic background and the like.
to
Page 34
VRISHAB ENTERPRISES
Ultimately, stress may catch up with such a person and signs of poor corporate
citizenship may appear, but such denials of natural satisfaction-output patterns cans
maintain themselves for long periods. Hence job satisfaction may will be more important
to the individual than to the employing organization. In American society, responsibility
for attaining job satisfaction usually assigned to the individual rather than to the
organization. Individuals can change jobs, thereby obtaining more satisfying work.
DISADVANTAGES
1) Employers have little to no supervision of employees. This makes the employers feel
they have no control over the employees and their productivity.
BLDEAs BBA College Jamkhandi
Page 35
VRISHAB ENTERPRISES
2) With the employees working on a network attached to the company server, there is a
security concern because files, documents, and possibly private company information can
be accessed outside the office.
3) Start up and maintenance costs incurred by the company for supplies used in home
offices, maintenance of computers and network systems, and installation of intranets can
be quite costly.
4) Health and safety issues while working in the home office. There has been a lot of
controversy over the liability issues of telecommuting. What is the company actually
responsible for if an accident happens during specified work hours?
