OUR MISSION
STATEMENT:

Making Disciples
...Changing
the World

Back to School / Back to

Church
Here we are once
again...It is school time.
Summer has come and
gone: vacations, swimming, summer sports,
camps, youth outings,
fishing at the lake. Summer seems to fly by so
fast. Over the last three
months you probably got
into a weekly routine and
possibly one routine that
you might have gotten
into was not coming to
Church. Summers are so
full of family activities
that this is easy to do.
I would like to encourage
you to make Church a
priority. This not only
helps parents, but children also in being
grounded in the word of

Rev. April Wegehaupt

Christ for the week.

in Haggai. The summary

of the chapter is: God
will grant true blessing
when we put His house
first.

The Book of Haggai.

second shortest in the
Old Testament, has a
potent message. It tells
us to put first things
first in our lives. It was
written to people, like
us, who would have told
you that God must be
first. They believed that;
we believe that. But,
their lives did not reflect
that God was first. They
gave lip service to the
priority of God, but in
fact they lived with
other priorities. God
sent this prophet to
help His people get
their priorities in line
with what they knew
they should be.

Make God a priority of

your lives and see the
Blessings of God in your
homes.
Blessings,
Rev. April

I want to encourage you

for Youth & Their Parents!
As last year's Confirmation Class was ending,
several youth and their parents were interested in

been through Confirmation (and their parents, if they
are interested) should contact Linda to let her know.
The class will begin October 2.

MY CHURCH
is composed of
people like me.
We make it what it is.
It will be friendly, if I am.
Its pews will be
filled, if I help fill them.
It will do great work,
if I work.
It will make generous
gifts to many causes,
if I am a generous
giver.
It will bring other people
into its worship and
fellowship,
if I bring them.

MY CHURCH
will be a church of
loyalty and love,
of fearlessness and faith,
and a church with a noble
spirit,
if I, who make it what it
is, am filled with those
things.

Thank you so much for

the graduation gifts. I
really appreciate the time
you took to help me

accomplishment. Also,
thank you for all of the

have given me throughout the years. Because of
you I know I have an
amazing, kind-hearted

I am writing to thank
you for allowing me to be
a recipient of the Estate
Fund Scholarship. I
attend Kansas Wesleyan
University in Salina,
Kansas. I originally was
majoring in Biology with a
plan to work in a zoo /
animal rescue environment; however, I have
spent the last two
summers since High
School graduation working with disadvantaged /
intellectually / emotionally disabled children with
SEKA through Southeast
Kansas Mental Health
Centers. As a result, I
have changed to a
psychology major with a
plan to become a case
manager or therapist
after graduation. Your
generous scholarship has
made it possible for me

to remain at KWU, as I
believe that without it I
would not have been
able to afford the
expense of tuition /
board this year.
Once again, thank you
so much for your caring
and generosity. I am
attempting to try to
graduate in 3 years
instead of 4, and am
working with my advisors
to make that possible.
Your scholarship has
definitely made a huge
difference in my life, and
I would just like to
express again how much
it means to me to have
your support and of
course, the support of
the United Methodist

Living With Confidence

in a Chaotic World
Begins September 3rd
10:00am / Room 112
Confidence can be hard to come by these days. People are losing their jobs, their houses, and their life
savings at an unprecedented rate.
Violence, natural disasters, and moral depravity seem
to be skyrocketing. In the midst of all this chaos, we
need to know . . . what on earth should we do now?
Come explore with us!

New Ladies Bible Study

I am not ashamed, because I know the One I have
believed in and am persuaded that He is able to guard
what has been entrusted to me until that day.
2 Timothy 1:12
Final words can be compelling. In Paul's final letter,
he charged Timothy, his beloved son, in the faith, to
not be ashamed to fulfill God's call on his life. In this
6 session Bible study, Beth Moore will challenge us to
do the same.

Top 10 Reasons to
Join the Church
Choir
10. Offering plate is rarely
passed to the choir
9. Youre running out of
clean clothes and the robe
saves on laundry.
8. Its exactly like singing
in the shower, except
youre wearing a robe and
people are actually listening.
7. Sitting with a group in
the chancel every Sunday
is excellent practice in
case youre ever called for
jury duty.
6. Theres a clock in the
back of the church and
you want to know when
one hour has passed.
5. No matter how packed
church is on Easter or
Christmas, youll be assured
of having a great seat in
the sanctuary.
4. For years you have
wanted to know who sits
in the back of the church
but were afraid to turn
around and look.
3. Youve been known to
nod off during the service
and dont want the pastor
to catch you.
2. Choir parties! Theyre
fun!
1. You get to see the goofy
faces the choir director is
making when his back is
turned to the congregation.

UPCOMING EVENTS

How to become a member....

You are welcome to attend worship services, member or not. For
that matter, you can attend any
activity of the church and are
invited to do so. Becoming a
member is, in faith, saying you
want a deeper commitment to the
church. Our vows ask us to faithfully participate in the life of the
church with our prayers, our
presence, our gifts, our service
and our witness.
We hope you will be a part of
the ministry of the First United
Methodist Church. If you would
like to become a member, please
give us: Name(s), address, phone
number, e-mail address, anniversaries, birthdays and if you are
already a member of some other
church or not. If you are, we also
need the name of the church and,
if possible, the address. Please
give this to the pastor, or leave in
the church office.
