The museum was founded in 1957 by

Emma Johnson of the Iroquois tribe from

New York. In efforts to preserve her tribe's
culture, Emma started raising funds to
establish the museum right after she
graduated from Hampton Institute, a
special Indian School in Virginia.
Through her hard work and
contribution from her tribe, the museum
officially began its operations on 16th
February 1958.
Our mission is to promote as well as
honor the culture and history of Iroquois
people by educating people through
exhibitions and tour that we offer to our
visitors.
