Myriant's process for the production of specialty chemicals requires the use of
proprietary microorganisms to convert sugars into targeted, high-value chemical
products. Myriant uses a single-step, anaerobic fermentation process that enables
higher productivity and yield than other bio-production processes.
Did you know?

Our team of scientists and researchers accomplishes this by developing proprietary biocatalysts
microorganisms with altered metabolic pathwaysdesigned to produce our target bio-chemicals from a variety of
feedstocks.

Members of our R&D team

are responsible for inventing
the process to manufacture
riboflavin, also known as
vitamin B2, a key component
of healthy living of all
humans.

Our scientific team has a deep understanding of the diverse biochemical pathways within microbial cells. As a
result, the team is expert in the bioengineering of systems based on a variety of microorganisms, including E.
coli, Bacillus, Streptomyces, Corynbacterium, and Yeast. Engineered microorganisms, just like ours, are widely
used today to produce a number of valuable substances including organic acids, vitamins (riboflavin, B2), amino
acids (lysine, tryptophan), enzymes, and other fine/specialty chemicals and commodity chemicals.
Tools of our Trade
To satisfy the growing global demand for bio-based chemicals, our scientists leverage multiple techniques to
ensure the production of high-value, high performing biochemical products, including:
Metabolic Engineering
Metabolic engineering involves manipulation of a microorganism so that its cells can more efficiently produce a
specific, desired substance.
Directed Evolution
Directed evolution is used to create microorganisms with desired characteristics. Through the process of
changing genes or a specific set of genes, organisms gain the ability to produce certain specialty chemicals.
