Setting up MS Windows XP for connection to the Internet through mobile phone

In order to connect your computer to the Internet through a mobile phone using cable as a
connection between the computer and the phone, you should first install drivers for modem
and possibly for the cable controler. When the phone is connected, the computer should soon
register a new device (in this case Nokia 6230 USB Modem):

After devices have been joined, you should set up parameteres for the connection to the
Internet through GPRS. Choose in the Control Panel, under Phone and Modem Options the
modem that shall be used for the connection (in this case Nokia 6230 USB Modem).

By clicking on Properties a new window shall open. Clik on Advanced and in "Extra initialization
commands" type in:

at+cgdcont=1,"ip","internet"

In this way modem parameters have been configurated and DialUp connection that shall be
used for the connection has to be configurated now. In Control Panel click on Network
Connections and then on New Connection Wizard.

New Connection Wizard opens a new window for DialUp configurations.

The first dialogue box gives you choice between the type of connection to be configurated.
Click on "Connect to the Internet" (first option):

Then select manual set up of parameters for connection to the Internet (second option):

Now choose the way of connection. In this case the Internet connection is enabled through a
DialUp modem (first option):

If there are several modems installed in the computer, you should select a modem that shall
be used for the Internet connection through GPRS. Disconnet all remaining active modems and
leave marked only the one used for the GPRS connection. In this case "Modem - Nokia 6230
USB Modem":

In the following dialogue box type in the connection name:

Now type the phone number. For NOKIA phones and Smartphones (Symbian, Windows
Mobile) type number *99#. For other types type number *99***1#.

In the following window you should type the user name and password. User name is telenor
and password is gprs.

Now appears the last set up window.

By clicking on Finish you close the set up window and open a new one that enables initiation of
the connection:

By clicking on Dial the Internet connection starts and after few seconds the computer shall
register the successful connection:
