Model (A4) > Static Structural (A5) > Solution (A6) > question 1
Question 1: State 4 four aspects of this simulation that you would need to vary to make sure your
results of interest are not sensitive to them.
Ans: Four aspects of this simulation are:
a) Mesh
b) Creep Limit ratio
c) Time of the simulation
d) Contact type
Model (A4) > Static Structural (A5) > Solution (A6) > question 2
Question 2: How much did the von mises stress relieve in the clamp during the 150 seconds of
the creep analysis, to the nearest MPa? Consider only the lower Y fillet between the horizontal
and vertical surfaces
Ans: Taking a look at the Von Mises stress results for the Y fillet in the clamp, the stresses
relieved from 310.43 MPa to 40.417 MPa , i.e. by 270 MPa.

Model (A4) > Static Structural (A5) > Solution (A6) > question 3
Question 3: How much did the equivalent creep strain increase from the end of step 1 until the
end of step 2? Consider the entire clamp.
Ans: The equivalent creep strain increased from 0 to 2.195e-003.

Model (A4) > Static Structural (A5) > Solution (A6) > question 5
Question 5: What do you think will happen to the preload in the bolt over time? (You can verify
by looking at a Probe > Bolt Pretension and consider the Preload Reaction). What might this do
to the effectiveness of your structure? What could you do overcome this a) Prior to the design
being made, and b) If the design is already in use in the field?
Ans: The preload in the bolt is decreasing overtime as we can see in the Preload Reaction table.
This will lead to the decrease in the effectiveness of the structure.
a) Prior to the design being made
The value of pretension should be such that the desired level of pretension is maintained
even after the desired life cycle.
b) If the design is already in use
The pretension of the bolt should be adjusted and checked regularly after certain amount of time
depending upon the lifecycle.
