Translation
A Nikah can be contracted with a proposal and acceptance with two phrases
which are used to express the meaning of the past tense because, though the (past)
tense was created for informing, it has been made for initiating in the shariaah to
remove the necessity.
Summary
The 2 rukn (pillars) for Nikah are Ijaab and Qabool i.e proposal and acceptance.
They should be in the past tense as future tense does not confirm anything rather it
could just be a promise and there is no specific tense for present in Arabic.
Note: In languages such as English where we have the present tense you can use
present as well
