POLICY FOR PUBLIC ORDER

Nottinghamshire Police recognise that there is a need for common standards
in order to enable different Divisions/Forces to operate together effectively.
This recognition extends also to standardisation of terminology, planning
procedure, command structure, logistics, mobilisation and organisation.
Nottinghamshire Public Order policy guidance, outlines common guidance
and procedures in all of these areas. As such, it is intended as the source of
reference on which police training and planning for public order can be based,
in order to maintain a standardised approach, which will promote
compatibility.
In addition it will assist Commanders to decide which tactical options they
wish to employ in the context of worsening community disorder; to determine
the additional resources needed in the event of serious disorder and require
pre-planning; and to formulate contingency plans for serious public disorder.
Nottinghamshire Police will seek to adopt the tactics and standards as laid
down in the ACPO Public Order Manual on Keeping the Peace and the Home
Office guidance on Risk Assessments for policing disorder.
This manual incorporates the principles of the European Convention on
Human Rights and its application to the UK through the Human Rights Act
1998.
