CHAPTER 3: COORDINATION AND RESPONSES

3.2 HUMAN NERVOUS SYSTEM
BY MISS SOFEA

Neurone
Neurone is the basic unit of the nervous system which transmits electrical impulses
called nerve impulse
Basic structure: Cell body, Axon, Dendron

DENDRITE a thread-like
projection
Function: To transmit nerve
impulses to the cell body
CELL BODY
Function: To transmit signals
and coordinate metabolic
activity

NODE OF RANVIER
space between two
myelin sheath
Function: To speed up
the transmission of
nerve impulses along
axon
SYNAPTIC KNOB/
SYNAPTIC
TERMINAL/AXON
TERMINAL

NUCLEUS
Function: Control all
the cell activities

AXON a long thin fibre

extends outward
Function: To transmit nerve
impulses away from the cell
body
MYELIN SHEATH a fatty
substance
Function: Act as a protective
layer and insulator to the axon
and dendrites. Also provide
nutrients to axon
