Implementing the prototype into a Business Model: KIT-Start

Customer Segments
The KIT-Start hotel will focus on the ethical traveler and the cultural purist. Both of these
groups value the philosophy of KIT. The main driver for these groups to come to the KITStart hotel is because they want to positively contribute to the refugee-employees and
want to know more about them. We provide them with that opportunity.

Key Partners
Collaborating with the right partners is essential to create value for the Business Model.
As KIT (Hotel) is located in Amsterdam, the municipality is a critical partner to consider.
Regulations and ideas need to be approved by the municipality first.
The KIT-Start hotel main partner is KIT. The Hotel BV needs to follow the philosophy of
KIT and therefore create a strong linkage. To be able to make this concept work, a very
close partnership is created with the COA (centraal orgaan opvang), vluchtelingenwerk
and the government, to make sure the KIT-Start hotel is following all regulations,
concerning the refugees, correctly.

Key Resources
The KIT-Start hotel will be staffed for 80% with refugees, who got their asylum approved.
The refugee-employees will be selected upon motivation (and some other stuff). Their
work-experience is not a decisive factor, yet could be helpful when refugees choose to
continue to work for KIT.
Interaction and sharing knowledge are the key aspects of this concept. Refugeeemployees will be inquired to speak both Dutch and English (A2 level).
The refugee-employees will get daily, a half hour, creative time together in groups. This
will be used for small projects and evaluations, for example: intercultural knowledge,
brainstorming on projects of KIT and personal developments.

Key Activities
The main activities of KIT-Start hotel will remain: providing lodging, meeting and events
and F&B. However, with this new concept, guests will experience their stay at the hotel
on a whole other level. Lodging is not only lodging anymore, it is a new experience
based communication, awareness and doing good.

Value Proposition
The KIT-Start will create value for their customers in the following ways:

requirements and make sure there is a fair share of men and women working. This
will result in happy employees

Shaping experiences at the KIT-Start hotel everyone who is interested in the real
stories of the refugees can approach any of the employees. They will be delighted to
share their experiences with you and are interested in your experiences.

Contributing to a good cause staying at KIT-Start hotel will not only contribute to
helping the refugees, but also to the other projects KIT is doing abroad.

Brand value this new concept will create awareness nationally and internationally
and therefore more people all over the world would get to know KIT and what exactly
are doing.

Cost Structure
This new concept will demand a transition of the old hotel staff members. Besides the
transition costs, the hotel will need to train the refugee-employees, and these trainings
can only be given by certain employees who have obtained their leermeester
certificate. Investments will be made in the transition costs and the training.
