PRACTICE # 5. PHYSICS 1. SECOND SEMESTER.

NEWTON'S LAWS
In this IB lab you will be assessed on the following criteria:
Criterion C: Processing and evaluating
PRACTICE REPORT:
Included, labeled and organized next parts of the lab report.
Apa cover style.
1.- Objective
2.- Variables for each experiment.
3.- Control of variables
Include this paper work and photographs of the development including description.
Make a team of four classmates (Write the names of your teammates).

4 and 5.- METHODOLOGY AND RESULTS:

Material and equipment:
Bottle of glass (gerber)
Cardboard 15X15 cm
1 coin of 50 cents
5 pieces of 10 pesos
2 dynamometers (from lab)
Ruler of 30 cm
Weights of two different masses (from lab)

Experimental development and analysis of results:

1. - Place the bottle glass on the desk and over this the piece of cardboard.
2. Place on the board and in the center a 50-cent coin or smaller than is
achieved.
3. - Hold the bottle and with the other hand, with the index finger horizontally hit
the cardboard. Repeat several times.
4. - Record your observations:

5. - Clear the desk and place the 5 thick coins of $10.00 making a tower.
6. - With the rule strike the bottom coin horizontally sliding the ruler on the table,
repeat with the other currencies.
7. Reply and record your observations:

a) Which law is evidenced by these two experiments?

b) What does this law state?

c) Also known as the law of: _____________________________

8. - Put two hooked dynamometers pull with both hands in opposite directions.
Complete:
Value recorded in the right hand: _________________________________
Value recorded in the left hand: ________________________________
How are these forces?
a) Which law is evidenced by this experiment?

b) What does this law state?

c) Also known as the law of: _____________________________

9. - Hold a dynamometer.
10. Place the smallest mass held by the dynamometer.
Mass of:
Force recorded:
Now hang the bigger mass of:
Force recorded:
11.- Calculation of forces (weight W=mg) with the different masses:

Compare the measured and calculated forces:

a) Which law is evidenced by this experiment?

b) What does this law state?

c) Also known as the law of: _____________________________

12. - When shooting a gun, the bullets output produces a force called back.
Where is the action and where the reaction?

Make drawing of forces of the example of the gun:

13. - Write two examples of each Newtons Law and explain them:

15.- Calculate the absolute uncertainty of the instruments used in this practice:

6.- Conclusion. Criterion C.

Conclusion
Interpret data and explain the results obtained by proper scientific reasoning.
Answer: What was the result? What conclusions will the results take? Are the
expected ones? Which are the principles and laws applied? Are the results
consistent with the laws and principles? Do you find any relation with what you
know previously? Is there a difference between the result you got in practice
and what should be according to the principles or laws? Can you say the reason
why you did not get what you expected? Search and prove your results and
quote your sources.

Relate with the global context: Identity and Relation ships. Expectation: Beliefs
and values
