Ohio – 15th District

Democrat Republican

Candidate Mary Jo Kilroy Deborah Pryce

Funds On Hand $775,000 $1,819,000
Recent Poll Not available Not available
Rep. Deborah Pryce is running for her eighth term in this district, which she has represented since 1993. She has not faced
a significant challenge in recent cycles. In 2004, she won with 60% of the vote. This year, however, she faces a strong
challenge from Franklin County Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy. It’s a tough year for Republicans in Ohio and Kilroy may
be poised to take advantage and oust an entrenched incumbent – the Cook Political Report ranks this race “Leaning
Republican.”

The District
Most 15th District voters live in Franklin
County, which includes the western half of
Columbus. The district also encompasses
parts of Madison and Union counties.
Much like the rest of Ohio, the area was
closely divided in the 2004 election; Bush
took more votes in Madison and Union,
and Kerry won Franklin County. Ohio is
turning rapidly against the Republican
Party, with a governor and major
fundraiser both convicted of crimes and a
representative implicated in the Abramoff
investigation. President Bush’s approval
rating has been in the 30s for more than a
year in the state.

About Mary Jo Kilroy

After serving on the Columbus School Board, Mary Jo Kilroy was elected to the Franklin County Board of
Commissioners in 2000 and 2004. As Commissioner, Kilroy has drawn praise for balancing county budgets and running
an effective, efficient government. Kilroy intends to strengthen Medicare, raise the minimum wage, protect Social
Security and balance the federal budget. She’s pointing to Pryce as a rubber stamp for the Bush Administration.
