Summary:
In the article Lifestyle During the 1930s by Michelle Lee she discusses how the great
depression took on the society during the 1930s. It shows on how they were effected during the dust
bowl, and even the New Deal. Also described the entertainment during the Great Depression. The Dust
Bowl had an impact during this era since most farmers income was from growing crops, the Dust Bowl
killed, prevent growing crops for farmers who were located in the Dust Bowl, they soon had to move
west. Entertainment during this time was mostly board games, and radio programs. Divorce rates also
decreased due to no one able to live on their own, but many children were abandoned (more then
200,000 children). FDR created the New Deal which put our country on the road to recovery.
Americans also gathered around radios to listen to Franklin Roosevelt's fireside chats. (Lee 2)
Which the author implies that since Americans didn't have much to do, they listened to the presidents
plans, and news. Unlike today where no one really has a clue whats going on. many men deserted
their families or were forced to leave their homes in search of work.(Lee 2). The author points out that

men were the usually the ones who had to work to keep shelter, food, and health for their family. Which
concludes how hard it was for all these citizens in this time era.
