NUMBER OF PLANKS NEEDED TO STOP A BULLET

This is a shortcut Vinay sir taught me in class 11th, and it has

been very useful ever since.
Question: If one plank reduces the velocity of the bullet by

how many planks are required to stop the bullet?

The solution may be reached by using work-energy conservation, but
it'll take a lot of time.
Instead, remember this:
If n is an even number, number of planks required =

2+1

If n is an odd number, number of planks = Integer part of

2+1

(We ignore the decimal part of

2 if present,
mind it, just ignore, don't round off. )
Let's check it using an example.
One plank reduces the velocity of a bullet by

how many planks are required to stop it?

Solution:
Firstly, we need to convert
Now,

to

form. Clearly,

11.5 = 5.75 .
2=
2

From the above written we know that decimal part has to be ignored
and 1 has to be added.
Ignoring the decimal point we get= 5, and adding 1 we get = 6.
6 planks are needed to stop our bullet.
That's the answer for you.
