TONIGHT AT 7:15PM AT THE ALBANY COUNTY COURTHOUSE Proposed Local Law N for 2016 - A Local Law of the County of Albany, New York prohibiting Albany County government from discriminating against potential employees based on their criminal arrest record or conviction.
September 27, 2016
ALBANY - Albany County Legislator Samuel I. Fein (D6th District) and other members of the County Legislature first introduced Local Law N this past July, which would stop the county from asking about the criminal history of job seekers during the application process. Tonight, members of the community are invited to the Albany County Courthouse to discuss banning the box. The proposed law has gained tremendous support and will prevent the county from inquiring about an applicants criminal record through a question, interview or box on the job application. Legislator Fein, members of the Majority Minority District Caucus and other Legislators want to ensure that all job candidates, regardless of their arrest record or criminal history, receive a fair chance of obtaining employment with Albany County. I constantly hear about the challenges that so many people face in finding employment because they are judged based on a mistake they made earlier in their lives, rather than their qualifications for a position Fein said. I am excited to hear from the community and proud that I have the opportunity to propose legislation that will ban the box on all Albany County job applications.
