3 Idiots is a 2009 Indian coming of age comedy-drama film co-written,

edited, and directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The
story is about two friends Farhan (left) and Raju (right) who on getting a clue on the
whereabouts of their college friend, Rancho (middle), start a quest to find him.
Rancho in his college days was an exceptional, but curious kid, who questions the
way education has been taught. His two best friends Farhan and Raju follow his
ideals half-heartedly, only to come under the bad books of the dean Viru
Sahastrabudhhe (Boman Irani). To everyones amazement, amidst his crankiness
and naughty college mischief, Rancho always comes first in his exams. His
exemplary friendship, love and naughtiness make him a hero amongst his friends
and also to the daughter of Viru Sahastrabudhhe, Pia (Kareena Kapoor). Rancho
helps his friends to achieve what they dream of, but disappears mysteriously after
getting his degree. To find out that he built his own school for persons who needed it
most.
ACTORS:
It was beautified with towering performances and outstanding actors. In the
first part of the movie, Aamir (Rancho), Madhavan (Farhan) and Sharman (Raju)
actually looked and behaved like real students. While Aamir pitches in an almostperfect portrayal of Rancho, the free-spirited innovator, Madhavan and Sharman are
perfectly in sync too. Every actor in the film portrayed their role very well. For me
they successfully showed what should be the characteristics and attitude of each
role. Rancho (Amir Khan), the main and my favourite character in the film, gave
justice as a very bright student who motivates his friends pursue their passion and
make a career out of it. Also Viru Sahastrabudhhe is quite impressive in portraying
his character as a strict dean of engineering who wants his students to just follow
what he teaches and not able to think and do on their won. All the actors and coactors done a commendable job. After watching the film, you cant think of better
actors to play every role.

All in all, the actors performed well, and even though the universal language
which is English was not used in the movie, the story still made it possible for the
viewers to easily understand the lesson of the story. Therefore, 3 Idiots almost
had every experience that one could easily relate to with his or her college life, from
seniors to ugly or strict professors, to pissed off students, to suicides, love and
everlasting friendship. It is perfect to watch with friends.
DIRECTOR:
Rajkumar Hirani, the director of 3 idiots, did a great job on making it a top
class film. He was able to maximize every characters exposure and the potential of
every scene to be memorable to the viewers. Most films have their own set of
'highlight' scenes but 3 Idiots is different because every scene is special and brings
with it something that's out of the ordinary. The twist comes when on Graduation
Day, after being awarded the Student of the Year title, Rancho mysteriously
disappears into oblivion. Years later, Farhan and Raju, finding a common thread,
embark on a journey to find their friend. 3 Idiots is a story of friendship, hope,
aspirations and most importantly, the goodness of life. With 3 Idiots, Rajkumar
Hirani, proves beyond doubt that he is one of the best story teller in the present
generation.
CINEMATOGRAPHER:
The cinematography of the movie 3 Idiots is well fitted to the story. Every
time there is a musical production, the colors of the environment and the decors are
appropriate to the message they want to imply. For example when they are singing
aal izz well the crowd are really happy, all of them are in a positive attitude just
like what the song says, all is well. After singing aal izz well, they saw Joy
committed suicide then the music, emotions and the tempo changed and gave a
dramatic feeling to the scene. The story is in Farhans point of view. He tells the
story of Rancho, his friend. Overall the cinematography of the movie was excellent.
It gave the viewers a clear message about the story of life and friendship.
The editing of the movie is well coordinated. The story line has a little
mystery about Ranchos real identity but it was made perfectly clear in the end.
The movie has a parallel style of editing. It is when Rancho tries to steal the test
questionnaires while Professor Virus walks towards his office which did not really
happened at the same time. Overall, they did a good job on the movie editing. It
gives the viewers a chance to enjoy the movie because of its exciting arrangement
of scenes.
SCRIPT:
Almost every dialogue in the film is memorable. The writer was able to
convey the message of the story while trying to be funny and inspiring at the same

time. Starting on the present time then all the way back 10 years ago and then
returning to the present time. Dialogues are snappy and totally effective. Ranchos
dialogues are motivating. My favourite line is There is lot of knowledge flowing
around us. Dont miss it; grab it from wherever you get it. Every dialogue in this
movie is a motivational quote that may guide you in all walks of life.
SOUND & VOICE:
The sounds of 3 Idiots took the listeners on a journey to merry college days
and to the memories with friends that matter. The aal izz well guitars and the
cheerful campus voices repeating a catchy doom kechiketa yeah whistling all your
worries away in a minute. When I hear this song, it was relaxing to the ears of those
who are listening. The next sound that caught my attention was Zoobi Doobi, the
picturization of this song is doing the rounds on the Internet, featuring everyones
dream girl and boy, Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan. The song has a sweet lyrics
and easy going rhythm. Some of the songs were not translated in English but still,
those who cannot understand Hindi may want to enjoy them to the fullest by
reading the lyrics translation and really enjoy it. These are some of the songs that
really caught my attention. Overall its music is catchy or moving but remained
authentic enough to fulfill their cinematic purpose.
REDEEMING VALUE:
Three Idiots has one of the most relevant issues not only of Indian society but
also in other part of the world, a heart-warming story woven around it and a
narrative that takes you through the film effortlessly, leaving you happy, moved,
and thoughtful in the end. The film depicts that life at engineering colleges is not
fun; they have to deal with some serious problems including struggle to get good
grades, ragging and mental pressure that forces a student to commit suicide. 3
Idiots sets new standards of friendship and mutual bonding between classmates
which was evident in the first frame of the film.
